Smile Quinlan Nathaniel, the first details

    Hello all!

We are now back home, tired, I am weepy one minute and elated the next (those hormones sure pack a punch!) but he is safe and sound!

I will post extensive details and pictures tomorrow, but here are the highlights already:

He was born via emergency C-section monday night a little after 11 PM, and weighed in at 6 lbs., 10 oz. and measured 18 3/4 inches long. He has very long fingers and toes, like his dad, and a headful of thick long black hair!

They spent 5 minutes suctioning his lungs clear of the blood he had ingested during the surgery, then I got to see him a few seconds and off he went to the NICU, with Avi in tow, to stabilize and have his sugars monitored.

His sugars were very good, always around 72-73, and after about 6 hours his respiratory problems (caused by the blood in his lungs) had cleared up as well, and I got to really visit with him for the first time at 7 AM, Tuesday morning.

So far, he is completely healthy. We are so, so, so very grateful for that, I always remind myself of that when I feel blue or overwhelmed, and it makes my heart sing.

Breastfeeding is hard work, but we are starting to get the hang of it!

I have missed everyone and look forward to reading and posting and catching up tomorrow!
And I will post details and pics as promised!!

I understand how you feel about being grateful despite a rough start. Not exactly how we pictured it, was it???

Breastfeeding is hard in the beginning, but after doing it for 3 weeks, my guy kind of has the hang of it. So, it won't take long to get in a groove. Just keep at it!

I can't wait to see Quinlan's head of hair!!! Congratulations, Tanja and Avi!
