Splish, Splash. I had my baby!

Surprise, ladies... Tuesday, August 9th at 2:30AM, I was sound asleep. DH was rubbing my belly and felt how tight it was and the baby was punching and kicking like crazy. Gush, my water broke! I jumped up out of bed, went to the bathroom and cried, "I'm not ready!!"

I hadn't packed my bags or anything! I took a shower (probably shouldn't have), we threw the cameras in a bag and went to the hospital. I was contracting every 4 minutes, but not dialated at all. Long story short: pitocin at 10am, epidural at my OB's suggestion at 11am with internal monitors and still NO dialation, the head was really high. The baby's heartrate dropped with every contraction and the next thing I knew, I was being shaved and prepped for a Csection. My OB turned the baby around from head down to breech INSIDE ME, so that he could pull it out by the feet instead of yanking it out by the head. DH barely made it into the room, I had to remind them that he wasn't in the OR yet! They pulled it out and rushed it to be suctioned by a NICU doctor. Turns out my placenta was abrupting.

IT'S A BOY!!! Born at 36w5d and he was 7lbs, 9oz, 19 1/2 inches long. They had warned me he might be only 5 lbs. Ha!!! He is perfectly healthy and absolutely a dream.

His name is Luke Nelson Fuller and we are in love. He was cute on the first day, but when they brought him to me at 6am the next morning to nurse, I completely broke down at the sight of him. He's so beautiful!! I've spent so many months wondering what he'd look like because we used DE. I can't even express how I feel about him. I've told him I love him at least 100 times already.

DH stepped right up and has been changing diapers and bonding with his son, which is an awesome sight to see. We came home today and are so happy that this long chapter in our lives is over. He has truly healed our hearts.

I wish you all a beautiful birth experience! Mine couldn't have been more different from what I planned, but in the end, it's all OK because we have our boy.

    Flicka,

You have a beautiful son! As another DE mommy, your post brought tears of joy to my eyes........Congratulations, mama.........you did an incredible job on nurturing this little life.

I knew all along, while reading your posts of concern about bonding and the wondering about what he would look like, etc., that you would just melt and be over the moon when you saw him and held him in your arms.......and you are and that makes me smile.

    Enjoy your son.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Yea those Drs. don't always come close to guessing birthweights-LOL! (DS was supposed to be 7-8 lbs and he was over 9 lbs.) I'm so glad you and DH are in love with your little one. I too am wondering how our baby via DE is gonna look, but I know ALL babies are cute and you fall in love the minute you see them!
