A FABULOUS Tanja update for a change!

I am still sitting here not daring to believe it. Those two hours in the hospital were the longest of our lives. It was a 1 hour and 45 minute scan. And I kept my eyes shut for most of it, dying a thousand deaths, but Avi watched it all. It's so awful to have the technician work for 45 minutes in dead silence. Lots of time to ward off thoughts of the worse Then waiting for the Peri to come in and redo the important scan parts and then finally talk to us about the results.

NO neural tube defects. Perfect cerebellum and spine, abdominal wall, skull shape.
NO soft markers for Trisomy 13 and 18
NO soft markers for Trisomy 21 (Down's)
However for Down's the u/s is never 100 % conclusive, still, based on it the risk for Downs is now lowered to 1:800. I wept buckets.

The perinatologist still offered us the Amnio IF we wanted.

We decided to not do it. The risk of rupturing something because of it is too great, now that we have made it so far.
    And also...

It's not Sasja Rebecca Paris after all.
    It's Quinlan Nathaniel Paris.
There was definitely no mistake about that at all. None.

The Peri thinks I just fall in the 2 % of women with unexplained high AFP, with the contributing factors of very low-lying placenta ( the surviving twin is the one that implanted low) that lets too much AFP from the baby filter through, and maybe the dead twin which has not yet begun to be reabsorbed.

Only remaining issue now is that high AFP also is a precursor to preterm labor, placental disruption, early rupturing of the membranes and pre-eclampsia. So he recommends doing regular follow-up scans every couple of weeks to keep an eye on my placenta and cervix. Fine with me.

I just cannot believe it yet.
I am going to take a long nap now. We are drained beyond belief.

HUGS to everyone. All your support and caring always means so so much!

    Love
    Tanja & Avi
