DE pregnancy - terrified of stopping meds - advise?

    Hello

I am hoping that I can get some feedback here. I am 47 and after countless IVF failures, we had a donor egg cycle last year - only 1 embryo made to blast that I was not able to transfer due to a polyp and mammogram scare. Now I finally completed the transfer in July and so far things are going well. I am 9w2d as of today.

I was told to stop all my meds (estrogen 2mg twice a day, estrogen patch every 3 days, crinone 8% twice a day) cold turkey exactly on 10w. I am super nervous about this. I think they used to stop meds at 12 weeks. Is 10w the new norm? I called my OB office in panic but they closed on Friday, and IVF clinic basically told me that they have never had any issues with stopping meds at 10w and they can't help me since I am discharged to OB (I was hoping they can do a blood work for me to check my levels, or give me an option to taper down the meds after 10w).

Any experience with when/how you stop the hormone support for a donor pregnancy will be very helpful. This is our only and last chance so I am super nervous... Looking forward to some feedback!

    Thank U!

Hi Wishbone, I didn't have de but can definitely remember being scared to stop meds cold turkey and without any bloodwork. I contemplated going against the clinics advice and slowly tapering off the meds but then changed my mind. It all turned out ok, I'm 31 weeks now. They assured me the placenta takes over and produces enough hormones to sustain the pregnancy, so I hope that brings you some reassurance. Good luck.

I'm 11w1d and at 10w or so I started the weaning protocol. 1 estradiol from 2 per day, 2 patch from 4 every 3 days and .75 PIO from 1.5ml. I stop completely in 4 days. I see no issue cutting to half at first then all together 7 days later. It's up to you. Don't know how it will affect you. I'm 38.

I stopped at 12 weeks, but I had heavy bleeding at 6 weeks, which is what was making me nervous to go off the progesterone.
If it will make you feel less nervous and you have enough meds, you could follow what Patient-One suggested. I was very close to doing the same.

Hopingforlilone and Patient-one, thank you for your replies. I spoke to my OB and he is ok with me adding a weaning period. Cutting all doses by half starting on 10w and continue to 11w or 12w, then stop completely. I probably will go with 12w. He initially suggested 11w but is ok with staying on till 12w.

Hopingforlilone and Patient-one - also do you use IC estradiol generic or another form of estrogen. Just want to make sure what I am taking (is generic) is safe to extend into 12w. Thx!

No. Aren't generics just a cheaper version of the real thing? Same contents but just called generic so it cost less?

Patient-One - thanks for responding. No clue, that's why I am asking... I know for my thyroid meds, my Dr. insists on a particular brand name...

I may be dense, No means no difference in your opinion? So do you use the generic estradiol? Thanks, sorry I am being so OCD about this...

I was on estradiol vaginal tabs until 12 weeks, I don't think it matters if they're generic or not. Synthroid is different because the different brands can actually have different concentrations and with the thyroid hormone, even small fluctuations can make a big difference. I'm not a doctor tho so if you're concerned you could double check.
