Ok, those of you with girls...

When (if you haven't already) do you plan on piercing their ears? At first, we were thinking early (3 months), then I heard a story about how there ears grow and the piercing will look like it's at the very bottom, then I was thinking about now, but am thinking...she pulls at everything...do I really want to have her pulling at her ears...or godforbid she actually got one out and put it in her mouth (where everything goes) So now I'm thinking I may just have to wait until she's older, at least old enough to know not to eat them! Or pull at them! So, what are your thoughts?

You know I struggle with this on almost a weekly basis. I knew I wasn't going to do her ears until she was a little older and got some shots into her and then planned on doing it for her first birthday as a present from me and dh and get her little diamond studs with the screw on backs that she will always have but now I am afraid that she may still be able to get them out and she is very nosey and has to check everything out and I know she will know there are earings in her ears so now I am not sure. From what I have been told 5 or 6 months is really the best time because they won't pull them out and by the time they are old enough to be able to pull them out they won't even know they are there or are so use to them. So if I don't do this at her one year birthday then the next option would be right before she starts school and do this special day with her because she is a big girl she can get her ears pierced kind of thing.

I got B's ears pierced at 6 months. She screamed and it was horrible but they were so cute. For the longest time she even left them alone! Now, though, I can't get her to keep them in! Every time I buy new ones, I have one go missing. She even manages to get the screw back ones out!

Good luck in whatever you decide!

We will be waiting to have dd's pierced when she is at least 10 or 11. The reason being, I want her to be old enough to decide and be responsible for taking care of them herself. She may not want even want them pierced so we are going to wait for her. That is what is best for us and I think for dd.

Everyone was bugging me to get dd's done but I stood my ground on that one. I think it looks so cute but I want her to come to me and say hey mom I want my ears pierced and it will be something she will look forward to. Then I want to make it a girls day of lunch, shopping and ear piercing.

Jill, that is sooo cute. That is what my mother did. My older sister had hers done at 8 years old. So, I had to wait until I was 8 - then on my birthday - we had a girls lunch and we went to the mall to get my ears pierced. I had never been so excited and anxious at the same time. Definitely a great memory

I wanted to pierce my daughters' ears so badly, but my DH said no. He remembers when his little sister got hers pierced and how much it hurt her and he said he didn't want them to be in pain for no reason. He also wants them to make their own decision.

After reading Erin's post I feel a little better. I would love to have a girls day out when they are older and get their ears pierced and have a lovely memory for them.

But I still wish they had them pierced when I see how cute the other little girls look. I could also not have to put them in so much pink. They don't have enough hair for barrettes or teeny pony tails yet.
