Dh's using Clomid for bad S/A numbers

Can anyone tell me anything about men taking clomid to improve sperm parameters? What does it help with - motility, morphology, total count, etc.

How does it compare to using supplements that research shows improves some of those areas?

    Thanks!

I have read some onfo about Clomid on the internet that stated it is to help improve count only and that most insurance companies will not cover it (verify). I have had my husband on supplements for about 2 months are we are about to retest in about 1 month to see if that makes any difference. It may help for you to post the results of your SA. The other girls on the site may then be able to tell you what has helped their DH and with what results. My husband is 313mill/mil 75% motility but 3% morph. I am trying a ton of antioxidants to try to improve his morph. Lots of L-Arganine and L- Carnitine and Zinc, Vit C, Selinium. Plus I have heard red meat helps due to the Aminos. Don't have the new results yet but I will share once they are in. Best of luck to you.

I don't mean to discourage you by any means, but my husband was on Clomid for three months, and it did nothing for him. Count was the same, as was everything else.

I've heard it works for others, and that's great, but it didn't work for us. Plus the entire thing was out of pocket, which really hurt us.

I've read others who've said their dhs took clomid with no effect. I just was wondering what specific area (motility, count, morphology) it was supposed to help.

My dh is also in month two of taking supplements, and after the third will return for another S/A and consult so wanted to know about clomid in case the doctor mentioned it. I thought it had something to do with hormones but wasn't sure.

My dh is taking Fertility Blend, CoQ10, B12 (methylcobalamin) and a men's multivitamin. We're looking to improve his overall count, motility and morphology but I think count and motility are the key areas now.

Let me know when your husband goes back for his results to see if his morphology is better since that is my key area my dh needs improvement in. Was your RE discouraging about supplements. My RE basically told me he doesn't think they work. Which didn't help my husband hearing- since I make him take upwards of 20 pills a day Sounds like we (or shall I say our DH's)will both be returning to the RE for a 2nd sa abbout the same time.

The thing is he just started seeing a new specialist right before he started taking the supplements. He had WBCs in his S/A and had to hold off the supps until he took antibiotics. When he returned for another S/A to get the "all clear", the doc was on vacation and wasn't to return for a while. Plus, he was going to wait the three months anyway to see the doc again because he needed another S/A anyway. So he decided, while the doc was away to take the supplements. Thought it couldn't hurt. I think the doc might be a little discouraging, only because his numbers are so low but we shall see.

Unfortunately, my DH has been taking clomid and Fertility Blend forever now and neither one has made any difference. He keeps taking them because he's still hoping they'll just kick in one day, but I want him to just stop because I think it's a waste of money.

    Hope it works for you!

I had my DH take Fertility Blend, L-Carnitine and Acetyl L-Carnitine for 2 months and it did nothing. We went the IVF/ICSI route and I am now 10wks pregnant. I think with severe male factor like we had that was our only real option. I'm now glad we did it even though in the beginning I wasn't so sure.

    Good luck!

Do you mind if I ask how many times you tried IVF before you actually had a successful pg? I know the supps probably wont work but I feel like I at least have to try them. We are going on VC in Dec so we are going to wait to start IVF until Feb probably. A couple more months of trying naturally with supps and fingers crossed. With all of the $$ for ICSI I fugure a couple hundred on supps isn't too bad. Plus I am sure it is good for my dh anyway.

We were very lucky and I got pregnant on our first IVF. We did one IUI in July even though our RE recommended going straight to IVF. When that didn't work we figured we may as well move on and we did and it worked.

    Good luck!
