    Patrick is Having Surgery

Patrick has had lots of double ear infections. It is to the point it is affecting his hearing and speech. Plus we think is was messing with his balance and that is why he was such a late walker. He finally had enough issues that we were able to get a referral to a specialist. There is no doubt that he is in major need of getting tubes put in. He is having his surgery a week from Tuesday on the 15th. Even though it is minor surgery I'm so nervous. I know it needs to be done though. He will most likely need speech therapy to help him catch up after the surgery.

Aww sweetheart! When I read this it broke my heart in many ways. First because he has been suffering through these infections, also in order to fix ts he has to have surgery. It's a big deal having any procedure in a strange environment for a little guy and mommy. My heart also broke for you.. I could hear the frustration and fear in your writing.
We are all here thinking of lil Patrick, and your family

Patrick had his surgery today. It went well. When it was time to go back to the OR, the doctor carried him back there while the nurse moved his bed. The dr has a 3 yr old son and also a son Patrick's age, so he was really good with him. The hardest part was when they took him back. The procedure only took about 20 minutes, although it seemed like it took a lot longer. They took us back to teeh recovery room just as they were bringing him out of the surgery. They warned us he would be inconsolable when he first started to come out of the anesthesia, and that was the case. I just held him and rocked him, but all he did was cry and fuss. That lasted for about 10 minutes, and then he was calm, and just fussed when the nurse was checking his vitals and unhooking all of the wires. We were home within an hour of him being in the recovery room. When he first got home he was pretty mellow and wanted to cuddle. I'll admit that was nice, since these days he is too busy to be bothered with cuddling. However, by the end of the afternoon, he was runing around and climbing on things, and back to his usual self. You would never know that he had surgery. So now hopefully the tubes will work, and help prevent his infections, and also allow him to be able to hear well enough to pick up some more speech. We've alreayd submitted a form with Early Intervention and should have an eval done within about 30 to 45 days.

He is doing great. Thanks for asking! He is sleeping through the night again. He was waking up every hour screaming, and it was worse than having a newborn. He has also gotten more words. By the next day he had the word "no". He now uses that frequently. lol He also is a lot more stable on his feet, and isn't walking/running like he is drunk. I wish we could have done it so much sooner. If this next one has ear issues, I'm insisting on ear tubes at the first signs of problems and not waiting around, as it has made such a huge difference!
