it depends on your progesterone level which they should draw at 5 or 7 days past iui. if your levels are low, they will supplement progesterone.

My RE does not test my progresterone but she does put me on progesterone suppositories, she says even if my progesterone isn't low they can't hurt (you can't have too much progesterone, but you can have too little). I start taking the progesterone suppositories the day after my IUI, I take one in the AM and one before bed. There are some side effects, they can give you a lot of pg symptoms, they can delay AF (I don't start AF until after I stop taking them) and they are very messy (be sure to load up on panty liners!!). Hope this helps!

My RE doesn't check my progesterone levels either, but he does put me on oral progesterone. I start taking mine on the second night after the IUI. I'm pretty sure you can buy progesterone over the counter in low doses, but i would talk to your RE first
Good luck, lots of baby dust

my Re prescribes oral progesterone 10mg 3 times a day for 15 days after iui. i was told it is meant to aid in the implantation process. to make our linings soft and thick.

    Too much progesterone

I did measure with normal progesterone levels and was put on 800mg a day of progesterone just in case. I had the side effect of loosing tons of hair (enough for me to see a dermatologist). My new RE does not use them if my levels are okay.

We had the same situation - RE never even mentioned it, but after we asked they checked it 7 days after the IUI. The level was fine so my wife never took additional medication.
