    What is this tree called?

It is a fast growing hardwood tree known for its long straight trunk. In the 1st 3 years the tree can reach 90% of it's growth and get to 70-80 feet in height!!! The leaves can get as big as 35 inches and there are lavender blooms in the Fall. It is native to Australia but grows well it hot places like Honduras and the South. It's name begins with a P.

For a hint here is a picture of a leaf and the tree:

Is this a tree in your yard? I am soooo bad at plant identification, and especially at ones out of my area! The leaf looks something like a Catalpa leaf, but they don't get as huge as you said in your hint, and the tree doesn't look like that. But hey--other than that I'd say a Catalpa!

I have never heard of that! Is there a common name?

(I agree that the leaf does look like a catalpa )

I actually bought the tree from one of those "cheesey" flower and garden catalogues that have the tomatoe/potatoe plant, the rainbow plant, and the tree that grows to the height of your house in 1 year!!! I didn't believe it but it REALLY did grow to the height of the house and it doesn't have a big root system to break up a driveway or sidewalk. The leaves are like fan leaves they used in Egypt on the Queens and Kings... kind of fun!

OK, whose next for posting a flower, tree, or shrub question and a picture of course?

I've never heard of ANYthing like that! 2boys2Luv knows her plants! I don't get the newspaper and kind of miss seeing those crazy plant ads in Parade Magazine and the like. I'll bet if I picked up a National Enquirer I could find some ads like that . . . LOL! Now MAV, WHERE did you say you found your ad?

It was in Gardener's Choice little magazine like things with just plants, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables. It is small, not like a regular size magazine. I actually have sprouts of the Pawlownia. The leaves are cool!!! I can see 2 little girls using them to play "princess" and fanning each other with them-LOL!

I was only guessing because someone in HI that we knew had some of them. I couldn't remember where the tree was originally from but I remembered them saying it grew so fast when they got the first one. And get this - his name was PAUL! Ha!
