Just back from a week in Amsterdam...

...and the food was fabulous! I have finally had sushi that wasn't on a Chinese buffet. I also had Indonesian, Indian, turkish, surinaamese (sp?), Italian, and traditional Dutch food. I found that I do like lamb, just not any of the ways that I've prepared it. I wish I could remember the names of 1/2 of what I consumed, but quite a bit was in dutch and we ended up talking to the waiter and asking for suggestions and such. There was also quite a bit that dh pointed to and said, "I want that, please." I am going to look for a recipe for shoarma and see if I can somewhat duplicate it. That was the only thing I ate twice.

Thank goodness we walked as much as we did otherwise I prob would've had to be rolled home. I enjoyed the food as much as I did everything else. You should have seen us walking through the grocery store. You'd have thought we were still at the Rijksmuseum!

Oh, I love Amsterdam! I used to spend a lot of time there 9 or 10 years ago. I ate a lot of shawarma too. Did you get to try vla? or ertwensoep? or eat herring on the street? I guess that's a spring thing.

    Ah, memories. . .

Norma, yes! We had frites w/ mayo, and isn't it funny that I can care less about fries here, but over there they were so good! We also bought our falafel from a street vendor.

Cathy, I just couldn't do the herring. I kinda wanted to, but dh would start talking and gross me out about it before we got there. He does the same thing to me with jello. I did not have erwtensoep or vla, but I did have banana gelati and appeltaart. MMmmmmmmm..... I also had something else, a meat croquette of some sort. It was served on a slice of white bread with lots of mustard on the side. Anyway, it was good, but very filling.

I thought about you when we had our layover in London coming and going. I was hoping to get a glimpse of Big Ben or something from the airport, or as we were flying over, but we didn't. If we did I was unable to identify it. lol We changed planes at Gatwick. We thought about spending a night in London but dh nixed the idea. I could've pushed the matter, but he did have valid points. If we had I was going to see if you wanted to meet up and have a cup of coffee or something.

This was our 1st vacation in 10yrs, since the 1st year we were married, and my 1st time out of the US. I'm so glad DH chose Holland and started making arrangements before I could say no.
