How many slices of cheese on a grilled cheese?

I stopped at a deli yesterday and got a grilled cheese for DS- 14 months. The guy preparing it asked if I wanted it regular or smaller for ds. I said I don't know- regular I guess- 1-2 slices. He said, no regular is SIX slices! Soooo... I said 1-2 is fine. I got to daycare and unwrapped it and this thing was cheese central! It was way too cheesey for me (but I choked it down anyway )and nearly impossible to tear up for ds. SOoooo..... how many slices do you put on YOUR grilled cheese? I would probably use a couple at home, but this didn't look like a couple to me.... many more!

I'm not a big cheese fan, so I make mine with one simple slice. Something with 6 slices would choke me!

1 slice if we are using american cheese slices. I would hate any more. bleck

Now - we actually use sharp cheddar that you cut from the block of cheese and it's hard to get thin slices so it's probably close to 2 'slices' worth of cheese.

2 SLICES. What kind of cheese do most of you use on a grilled cheese? I find the disgusting, cheap, cheese food type slices work the best. I have tried it with cheddar and it just doesn't melt.

I never use American cheese food slices. (They don't sell them here.) If I make a grilled cheese, it's with cheese cut from a block of cheese--and I'll use however many slices will cover the bread. I'm guessing I would use two American cheese slices.
