    ever had fresh lychees?

Today at my grocery store they had fresh lychees shipped by air. Nine pounds a kilo (about nine dollars a pound! ). I bought a small bag to enjoy and they are definitely better than the garden-variety fresh lychee. How I love those little suckers.

Can you get fresh lychees where you are? I think they are offered frequently here because my grocery story gets a lot of Japanese customers.

Aren't they great?! I can't get them at my regular groceries, but the nearby giant Asian market carries them. I pay less than you per pound, but not much. I could buy them for much less in Los Angeles...My kids love to look at them (they're pretty cool looking, I admit!), but don't like eating them - which is ok because then there's more for me!

Japanese? Why do I think of them as Indian? I knew a bunch of Indians who loved them... that's why.... I have never had them fresh, only canned. They are OK canned but I imagine they would be WONDERFUL fresh. I'd like to try them and will if I ever come across them.

My Aussie friend here gets them occassionally. She loves them! I don't know how much she pays. They have them at the more upscale market that caries a lot of fresh produce.

I have never had fresh Lychee but have had fresh Rambutan which is similar. I suspect we have a grocery store that carries them in the poshest suburb
