I have a crab cake recipe that calls for fresh bread crumbs. I believe it said to buy the best quality French bread you can find. Break into pieces and put in either a good blender or food processor. I did this and then ended up freezing some because I made so many. It was very easy. If it calls for dried, you could use bread that is several days old or toast in the oven first.

I find day old french bread works best. A food processor works wonderfully, next best is a blender and then just as well but so much more labor intensive is a food grater.

This is one thing I just don't make enough.

Just like Lynn said. I don't have a food processor, so I used my blender when I made Lynn's crabcake recipe last year. It was fast & easy.

I use blender and it works well. My MIL uses dry bread and rolls it in a plastic bag with a rolling pin.

    any will do

I feel that any breadcrumbs will do. I personally prefer italian and french type breads but I also will freeze extra sandwich buns and extra bread etc., then whenever I need breadcrumbs, pull a few out and throw in the food processor.
