    Question Chicken Tikka Masala?

My five year old (yes, 5 year old) has decided that he LOVES Indian food. I don't have typical eating kids! LOL He keeps begging me to make chicken Tikka Masala, but I don't have a recipe for it. Anyone have a good (hopefully easy, lol) recipe for this or any other Indian foods?

Sorry, I have two small cookbooks, pamphlets, really, and one regular cookbooks and none of them have it.

    I guess I recommend take-out!

I can probably dig up a recipe later, but here's my advice:

Check Trader Joe's (if you have any in your area) or your regular grocery store for a Tikka Masala simmer sauce. I buy a great one in a jar (Patak's brand) from the Indian section at our nearby Safeway. I cut up boneless/skinless chicken, an onion and a few veggies and throw them into the sauce. Easy, easy, easy! Throw on a pot of rice and viola - dinner!

Try the microwaveable papadum, too. They're better than you might think!

I usually buy some plain yogurt and add cucumber, shredded carrot, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt and pepper and serve it as a salad with the chicken. Healthy and the kids eat it up!

I have seen recipes on allrecipes.com if you want to check there. I have an Indian cookbook, 2 actually, and can check at home later. I don't have time to search now, but later I will. I love it too. I think it is such a popular dish. One time I went out to eat with 4 caucasian/Americans and one Indian friend. The waiter walked up to us and said OK, how many chicken tikka masalas and how many saag paneers (my fave) LOL... I guess many American's like those two dishes. I know that 3, maybe 4 orders went in from our table that night!

Thanks all! I'll have to check out my Safeway and see if they have it here. I looked at recipes online and didn't know what half of the ingredients were, let alone where I could find them. A jarred sauce would definitely make it easier! LOL
Lynn, I guess most Americans aren't that adventurous (you should've seen my Mom at the Indian restaurant! LOL). Try one thing and stick to what is "safe." I love curries, but they're probably a little too spicy for the kids just yet. Unfortunately, the ONLY Indian restaurant we have near us, we ate at once and had bugs crawling on our table (happened in the middle of our meal or we wouldn't have stayed to eat) and DH got food poisoning. We think it was the lamb he ate, since no one else ate it. Needless to say, we won't go back to that particular place.

I can share a couple easier Indian recipes if you are interested. You will have to get a few spices you may not have. You may need cumin, coriander, garam masala, and curry. SOme large supermarket chains carry these. Of course, you pay an arm and a leg for these there...

Forgot about Patak's sauces. Our groceries carry them here; often they are just next to the East Asian type stuff. BTW, i now suggest you NOT get takeout LOL.

    Hi there

This is the first time that I've ever seen this BB. Go figure

Anyway, I'm as Indian as you get them - except that I've never been to India - lol

Anyway, if anyone wants a particular recipe, please give me a shout. I'll post on here.

    Cheers
