    Almond Cheddar Appetizer

    Almond Cheddar Appetizer

    1 cup mayonnaise
    2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
    1 medium onion (optional)
    ¾ cup slivered almonds
6 bacon strips; cooked, cooled and crumbled
    1 loaf French bread

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix all ingredients together. Slice bread into thin slices. Spread mixture on each slice. Bake for 10 minutes.

I made these tonight -- really good. Next time, I'd probably cut back on the mayo a little, use chopped green onions and add a little more bacon.

What do you think, Lynn -- you're the resident recipe play arounder

It sounds good and I agree- the green onions make it sound better. I would have to saute the regular onions first. DH would not help me eat this so I can't make it. I would make it for guests though. Actually..... I may also be tempted to leave the almonds out! lol.... I'm not the biggest nut fan in the whole world. I do like them, just sometimes like things better without.

Usually when I see a recipe with that much mayo I'm tempted to try cutting back and see what results I get. Often substituting sour cream or creme fraiche for the mayo can give very good results--and taste a little lighter.

I might be tempted to try a pinch of cayenne pepper too!
