    Spit-up and timing

The lactation consultant at the hospital told me that if baby doesn't burp within a minute, he didn't swallow any air... what I didn't ask her about is how long it takes to tell if he's going to spit up. He wasn't spitting up at all for the first few days but the past couple nights, he's spit up after I lay him down. I just a little bit from what I can tell, but I'm concerned that it's enough to choke him. How long should I wait to lay him down or should I even worry?

you could prop him up a bit with a wedge or something similar. my baby didn't spit for two weeks and then she spit up frequently after that. but i don't think anyone can say it's one minute for all babies. some take quite some time to burp. both my girls were hard to burp.

My little boy take sometimes up to five minutes to burp .. and if he doesn't burp he continues to spit up until he does.

One thing my doctor told me was that if the spit is clear or runny it was undigested bm, but if it is curdled and chunky it has started to digest and therefore the baby has absorbed most of the nutrients already!

I'm having the same problem. My baby's 3weeks. Just in the past few days she's been spitting up, just a little at a time and sometimes more while I'm burping her. She's hard to burp. I've noticed that even sometimes when she burps, she'll still spit up a little.

I wouldn't worry about a little spit up unless the baby seems uncomforatable like it's burning or something afterwards... my little one would spit up buckets. In one spit up he would drench those triple folded cloth diapers we used over our shoulders... Have you guys seen this cartoon before?

    funny Amy!

My dd also takes awhile to burp & spits up a bit. I don't worry about propping but just keep an eye on her.
