Neat things about breastmilk I've learned

I thought it would be fun to make some notes about interesting things you've learned about breastfeeding/breastmilk that you may not have known beforehand. I think most of us know the usual benefits but here's a couple things I've learned and found interesting:

    1. Your body's hormones work at night to make the most milk.

    2. A preemie doesn't have the same iron stores as a full-term infant (thanks Mor!)

    3. Caffeine can build up in a baby's body and be stored for up to 80-90 hours as opposed to the three or four in an adult. I think I'll lay off the colas and see if Mia sleeps better.

    Please add yours!

Oh, Katie if only #6 held true to every baby! Joel is finally over his constipation!

    9. I can calm my son in an unstant as soon as he begins to nurse, no one else can do that for him.

Ok, not so neat but I do not have a creative mind

That's true -- with my first, his nose wasn't like that and what a nightmare it was along with poor latch, nipple confusion (pacifier), me being a newbie, etc... I didn't realize what a difference this could make until my 2nd whose nose was different and I never once had to smush my boob to keep his nose clear for breathing!!!!! Amazing!

Teresa, that is neat! I never new that before I started b/f either. It worked wonders for Madison, especially as a temper tantrum prone toddler. B/f saved us in that department as well!
