We've made it past 1 year! Question about occasional bf'ing.

My youngest DD, Olivia, turned 1 on Nov. 17th. I'd like to continue bf'ing her but on an occasional basis. Is that possible? What if I only bf her every other day....like once or twice a day? Will I continue to produce milk?

Hi old friend! Wow -- I'm seeing a lot of missing Sept 02 mommies around these past couple of weeks! I've seen hkilleen, kim in denver, and now you!

I'm nursing Joshua only in mornings now. I know he's getting quite a bit (maybe 6 oz or more?) because not only do I see it dripping from his mouth if he smiles, but when I pick him up, I can hear it sloshing in his belly! The girls here have always said your body adjusts to the demands, and it's true!

Even though we are down to mornings only, on Sunday I slept a little later than normal and when I woke up, I was full...my body knew I should've already nursed him and the milk was there waiting...

Congrats on making it to a year!!!!!

Congratulations!!! I think I would try to do it once a day and not skip days. You'll still make milk unless you wean completely, but she might get frustrated if not enough is coming otu.

CONGRATS!! I do not know about skipping days but only going once or twice a day will work out great! That is what I did when I began to wean L&L at 18 months(I think it was) with Big J I went cold turkey.....OCDH!!!!!!

My ds is almost 16 months and we breast feed twice a day. Once in the morning and before bed. When I"m not at work, we b/f right before his nap. I've never skipped a day, so I'm not sure what that would do for your supply.

I talked with a friend today who nursed one side one morning and the next morning the next side... it worked for her until she weaned she said!
