    Pumping volume question

My son is 8 weeks old. I pumped when he was born to get my milk in but then slacked off of pumping. He's gaining weight well, so I know my supply is OK. I'd like to start building a stash by pumping maybe once a day but I'm only getting 1 ounce after feeding him. Yesterday, I pumped 3 times and only got a total of 3 ounces. Any suggestions on how to get more? I'm using the Medela Single Pump.

    Thanks!

Try to pump early in the morning, your supply will be higher than it is in the evening.
Also, you will most likely get more milk after you've been pumping on the same schedule for a few days because your body will adjust to what you're asking from it. Be sure to drink lots of water!

Try pumping one side while you nurse on the other. Also pump before a feed. Your baby will soon build the supply back up. Make sure you pump atleast 5 minutes longer than milk stops coming.

I did the same as Marieke suggested, and pumped on one side/fed on the other. I switched sides with each feeding.

Thanks, Katie! Marieke and Cassie, I would pump while I nursed if I could! My boob is too big, I have to hold it with my other hand. It's hard for a multi-tasker like me. Hopefully, what I pump will increase this week as I do it more?

HI Flicka!! Yes, if you keep pumping you will find your supply will increase, & you'll get more. Glad to hear it's going well.

    hey kim!
yeah, definetly do what these ladies have suggested and pump in the mornings. i have done that since cam was 2 wks old, and my body has adjusted so i make some 'extra' milk for the am pumping, and usually get at least 3-4 oz after she nurses.
    good luck!!

OK, will do. So you pump every morning, Sarah? Oh, you're probably stockpiling for work, right? I think I need to work on my water intake too. Are you guys drinking tons? I nursed him last night at 3am and he only took one side. So I pumped the other side and only got 1 ounce! UGH. I'll keep at it! Thanks.
