How much do your LOs eat in 24 hrs?

Since Gabby is getting mostly pumped milk, I am very aware of how much she eats. I kept track of it yesterday, and she only ate 12 oz. in a 24 hr. period. It takes her so long to finish a bottle. I'm worried about my baby. She's 12 weeks old, and I think she should be eating a lot more than she's eating. How much are your LOs eating?

Well, we are on formula... about 3-4oz per feeding every 4 hours.

So, at almost 8 weeks, she is getting I'd guess between 20-24 oz per day.

I know my friend has a premie who is just now eating 160ml (about 5.5 oz) every 4 hours, and she's 7 months old (4 mo adjusted). She was a VERY, VERY slow eater with expressed breast milk. She had a lot of eating issues until about 2 months ago. However, in teh past month, they just changed her to a particular formula (no more breast milk), now she's eating like CRAZY! Apparently she really just did not "like" breast milk. Who knew?

I'd be asking your doc how much Gabby should be having, I asked Callie's doc. They have a formula they use to estimate amount of calories per day needed.

    Good Luck McKenna!

I can't really help much on this one cuz M throws up so much. He has had 18 oz already today and I'm sure he will be having a least 2 more bottles before bed. We do 30-42 oz a day but he throws up so much. We do them in 2 oz increments in 6 oz bottles.
My ped said double their weight and that is how many oz they need but you can go 20% more or less than that and be OK.
McKenna, I don't know how that would translate for Gabby with being a preemie and using up so many calories to eat.
    Good luck.

She's sleeping 8-6???? I'm so happy for you.
I was so spoiled by DD. She was sleeping like that by this age. I was so happy to get from 11:30-5:15 last night with M.

McKenna I am BF exclusively so I don't have any idea how much Gabe is eating. My best guess (based only on how much I can pump when I do pump) is that he is getting 'about' 18 oz. a day at 3 weeks old and almost 10 pounds.

12 ounces does seem like a small amount but she is a tiny little thing too so the numbers may be different because her size is so much smaller. I think her doctor would be able to give you some good guidelines. What is the protocol is she isn't eating enough?

    We're praying for Gabby.

Was this the same 24 hour period where she slept all night and then took the 6 hour nap? If she was sleeping through feedings that could be why the number was so low?? Just a thought. Keep us updated if you talk to the doctor.
