Our 12 month check up :D

    Went very well....I think.....

Reagan is growing very nicely. 30 1/4 inches tall, 23 pounds and an 18 inch head.

Very proportionate, she's not a weeble or the hamburgler.

Our beloved pediatrician left this particular office and started a practice about 25 miles further down the road, so we chose to stick with the other doctor in this practice, just a few miles from home. It was a choice that I regret.

I went with my usual set of questions, because Dr. C ALWAYS sat patiently and answered my questions and addressed my concerns one at a time. But as the exam progressed yesterday, Dr. A didn't seem to be interested in my questions. AND Reagan kept crying everytime he go near her, like she was scared. And trust me, she loves everyone and doesn't do that EVER!!

So, I ask Dr. A about allergies and testing. Ok, no.....I TRY to ask Dr. A about allergies and testing........he interrupts me and goes into a long, condescending speech about allergy testing..........and he doesn't even know why I'm asking about it..........

I had about four more topics I wanted to ask him about, but was never given the chance.

He told me we needed to start all over with Reagan's feeding....WITH RICE CEREAL ONLY. I understand that he's TRYING to say that it may be the only way to figure out what she's allergic to......BUT....he never once let ME say...........ANYTHING............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

I have to add as a side note: I have many allergies, environmental and food. Up to this point we have done EXACTLY what I was supposed to...introducing new foods one at a time, etc etc........The only thing Reagan had a reaction to was Honey Nut Cheerios (I know...that was an accident).........

When I tried to tell him this....he just kept right on talking......when I said, "Excuse me, but I'd like to tell you what I've seen" He just kept on talking.

I looked at DH and he knew I was about to blow my top.

So........the doctor leaves and then the nurse gives Reagan her shots. Poor thing first time she's bawled like that.

I set up her 15 month check up at the front desk, but then as soon as we got to the parking lot, I called information and got our "old" ped's NEW office number.

Ok, so thanks for letting me vent. I'm also pissed at the manager at OUTBACK restaurant....she actually ARGUED with me about the ceasar salad.... Trying to let it go...I mean in the big picture...it's such a minor thing. And we are very lucky to be able to go out to dinner occasionally.... But geez how rude can the manager be??

Hi B2P - Reagan sounds like she is doing great. I am so sorry about the RUDE doctor. That is terrible. I truly do not understand why such people become doctors if they don't give a sh$t about their patients.

If you are unable to take Reagan to her "old" pedi then perhaps you should see an allergist? My DS was tested about a year ago by the gastroenterologist due to his reflux and inability to keep down even prescription hypoallergenic formula. In the end, it was something he outgrew BUT we did find out that he is allergic to peanuts which I am thankful to know. We have to carry an epi pen for him due to that. Now, I have heard that allergy testing is supposedly inconclusive in children under 2 BUT it is good to know if there is a susceptibility there and you can always retest at a later date to see if anything has changed. Whew! Sorry for the long response but that pedi you are seeing has me all fired up this morning I hope you get this resolved (oh and sorry about your salad )

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REAGAN...yesterday. (see 1st yr board for your post yesterday )

Sounds like she is doing wonderfully in the growth department. I am really glad you got the # for her old ped. I think you will be much happier going to someone you can express your concerns to. Congratulations for keeping your composure. You handled yourself better than I think I would have. You could always call around and see if there is a pediatric allergist or and ENT that would discuss the testing with you. Better yet, call your old pedi and ask him what he thinks.

Happy Birthday again Reagan...I know you have one PROUD mommy!

B2P - First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO REAGAN!!! AND Welcome to the 1+!!

I am sorry that the ped was so hard to talk to - I would have been very mad also. I drive 30 minutes each way to see the ped that we like and has been with our family for the last 6 years. For me, it is worth the time and gas to see someone who answers my questions and doesn't make me feel rushed. I hope that you can go see your old ped next visit. I would also write a note to this new ped and let him know why you are leaving the practice - maybe it will make him stop and think for just a minute -or not.

I would definitley change peds too! Sometimes you get some doctor who is so high on his horse....grrrr! I'm sure it will be worth it to drive the extra miles to see your old ped!

Sounds like Reagan is doing fantastic! Happy 1st Birthday Reagan!

UGH I cant stand that from a ped. Mine is so great to talk to and she REALLY listens. Sometimes I think a bit Over cautious but I would rather have that than the other. You are definately justified in chaging peds. I would go see the other one for her 12 month recheck(no shots ) if you still have concerns you want addressed. That is rediculous Stats sound great though. Just like my joshy but he was 33 inches. Tall Boy he is.

I know what you mean about the restaurant too. Sometimes they can just catch you at a moment. I had that experience one day when dh and I were really having a bad bad day.

First of all, smack the ped. Good and hard and then ask "how 'bout now? Now can I talk?!"

    Sheesh!
