    Adoption costs

Could someone please point me to some reputable data and/or resources on costs of adoption? I really need to get a handle on how much we can expect it to cost.

We are new to the idea of adoption for our family.

    Thanks for the help.

Either. We just got our diagnosis last week. Reeling and overwhelmed with these decisions.

Costs vary from $0(adopting through the foster system) to $30K+-international or some domestic situations.
We chose domestic using a collaboration between an agency and an attorney. (Agency did our home study, pre adoption classes, counseling for us and birthparents, post-adoption services and attorney assisted with the search/match and handled dispersal of birthparent expenses, and appeared in court for finalization). We've adopted twice and each was around $10-11K.
If you happen to be in So CA, send me a private message and I'll give you further details of our journey.

Our international adoption was 30k and some change. 10-11k sounds great! I would be interested in adopting again if DH and I were younger.. I had the best experience adopting DS.

How did you adopt so cheaply? I've been looking into adoption but have been overwhelmed with cost.

I agree the 10-11k mark is very reasonable for sure !

Wantbabybump-When we adopted, we looked at different agencies and found a very reputable agency that had incredibly reasonable fees. They charged an initial fee of $100 to start paperwork and pre adoption classes, then a very reasonable home study fee (around $1500 at the time) and then nothing until a successful placement had been made at which time there was a $3500 or so fee for post adoption. We opted to also hire an attorney to help us match. He had his fee and we told him that including his fee and agency fees, we could afford no more than $11K so he found a birth family who's expenses fit within the budget. We were lucky that there were no complications (such as unknown birthfather search, unexpected medical expenses, travel/hotel stays) since that would add to the fees.
