I am starting to look into day care. I'm due 5/4 and will only have 3 months maternity leave.
What is the average day care cost (for newborns) for a day care center in your area so I can get an idea?
How about average costs for private care in someone's home?
A friend of mine has his son at a private home that is licensed and he pays $45 a day.
Thanks!![]()

That sounds about right. I live in Calif. Teach, and pay most of my check to my care providers. Right now I'm working for the ins. it's good. If I knew we would'nt need some of the things my ins. provides I would continue to stay home. My children are 4, 3, and 2.

I don't know about private in-home care. Our area has remained pretty stable for infant daycare rates. Oldest son was $200/wk at his first daycare and youngest son will be $198/wk at the current daycare.

Hey Katie, I didn't realize you live in a neighboring state (I live in Annapolis). The private center for the girls is $265 for infants. In home was $207. I hate writing that check every two weeks.

Terri, I never realized that either!!
It is an UGLY UGLY check. Luckily I get 10% off the two cheapest kids, and when the babies move up to the toddler room it'll get a little bit cheaper.
They raised the rates for the Fall and I thought "Oh, 10 bucks a week, no big deal." Then I realized I have three kids and that it equated to over $120/month!

wow, I complain over nothing then. Luke has been in a in-home daycare since he was 3 months old and I pay $75/week. Daycare centers here ranging from $95/week to 157/week. Luke is currently in a daycare two days a week and it is 19.50/day. If I put him there full time it will be $85/week.

It definitely depends on where you live. I pay $110 a week for in-home care and that is pretty inexpensive around here. A center is about $150-170 a week. We pay over $10,000 a year in daycare-yikes!!
