When I bought ds's system- the sales guy said I needed to buy the remote so that the movies can be played easily.. but when he tries it says he needs a password- I haven't read the book yet to find the password- so I do not know if ours works

Jen,
Did you buy a used system? If so, you might be out of luck. If the previous owner set a parent lock password, then you need to know that password in order to play dvd's. We bought a used playstation and have the same problem. I guess if I was really bored, I could probably hack the password, but I haven't really been that inspired to try yet. Wal-Mart sells DVD players for about $30 that are pretty good and for about $50 that are very good. We just went that route instead of trying to get the password off. |

no -it was new so I bet it is in the paperwork - just too busy to go dig for it!
We have other dvd players so it is not like he needs it for a dvd player.

Hmmm...I did a quick search. Here are some suggestions I dug up:
To reset your password: 1. Insert a DVD Movie into the PlayStation®2. 2. You should receive a message informing you that the Parental Level has been set, and asking if you?d like to allow the disc to play. Highlight "Yes" and then press the X button. 3. A new window will appear asking you to temporarily change the Parental Control to a different level. Again, highlight "Yes", and then press the X button. 4. Another window will appear asking you to enter your Password. Above that window are numbers (0-9). 5. Do not enter your password, but instead, press the select button on your Controller. This will change the text in the window from "Enter Password" to "Delete Password". 6. Using the numbers above the window, input 7444. If successful, you will receive a message stating "Deletion Complete". 7. Press Select. You will now be asked to register a new password. Please select a four-digit code of your choosing. 8. You will be asked to confirm your password selection by inputting the same code once again. If successful, you will receive a message stating "Registration Confirmed". 9. Now you need to turn off the password altogether. The movie should have started playing by now. Press select and chose Setup. Go to the parental control "tab" and set the level to "off". 10. Now you should be able to watch any movie. It seems that 7444 is the default password. Let me know if that helps! I might try it, too!

I always use 0000 and it seems to work.
the problem I am having is that the new DVD (blue diamond or something like that), are not even reading the disk.

Kris,
Are you trying to play Blu-ray disks? Those are an entirely different kind of disk and have to have a special player. The playstation3 will play those but otherwise you have to have a blu-ray player. Otherwise, I don't know why they won't play. Maybe newer disks have a different encryption. ??? |

Ds and I were upset that the new Star wars Lego Game was only for PS3. These young boys who play LEGO cannot afford to buy a PS3 while owning a PS2..... rude I think!

GoMom:
Tell ds not to be too upset about the new Star Wars Lego Game. It's not really a "new" game at all. They just took several of their older games, vamped up the graphics and combined them to one disk. Play the original trilogy followed by the first three games...you've got all six movies. In good news, the upcoming Lego Indiana Jones is scheduled for PS2 release this summer. I'm looking forward to that one. Can't you just see the lego snakes now? Lol. |
