Follistim Question

Hello Ladies -

I posted this question on the IUI and 2ww boards, but I thought I'd post here too since I didn't have much luck over there.

Is it possible that Follistim affects my breast tenderness during the 2ww? Let me explain...what I've noticed since beginning Follistim is that my breasts will become tender IMMEDIATELY after releasing the first egg. THey remain tender for exactly one week. Then they go back to normal. THis is what then sends me into a depression and obsession with pushing on my boobs for one more week til my Beta test.

I should mention that I'm also on Estrogen patches, progesterone suppositories, prednisone, and Heparin - all post ovulation. You would think that the progest would keep my breasts tender, but nope! I should also mention that at the one week mark post IUI, my RE does bloodwork for progest and estrogen and so far so good.

The reason I'm trying to blame this on Follistim is cuz this never used to happen. WHen I've ttc'd on my own, I used to get the tenderness about 4 DPO and little by little as my period approached, the tenderness would go away. When I did Clomid, same thing.

HAs this happened to anyone?

THanks!

Jackie

Hi Jackie,
It would make sense that the follistim is causing side effects such as more breast tenderness. It is causing you to produce more follies, which are supposed to produce more eggs, and then when ovulation occurs it is going to be a stronger ovulation, and there for produce strover progesterone throughout your body.
GOOD LUCK!

Hi there. I am new to injectibles, too. DH and I have been TTC since our wedding (june 2006). Finally started with an RE last January, HSG fine, eggs fine, probably PCOS is my dx and also hypothyroid, which is controlled on 100mcg of Synthroid. I failed on three cycles on Clomid (no ovulation) and three cyles of Femara (had one mature follie each time, but still BFN) and my RE wants to try injectibles a few times before moving on to IVF. I am on my third day of 150 IUI of Follistim and go in for my first U/S tomorrow (after the baseline on Day 2). Can anyone tell me what to expect? I am starting to lose hope, although I feel like this is giving us our best chance so far to conceive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This month was my first month on injectibles too and during the time I was injecting (I had Menopur), my breasts hurt SO bad that one day in the shower just going over them with the washcloth & soap about made me pass out. I couldn't wear a bra during the time I was injecting either, but once the injections stopped the exteme tenderness went away. The good news is that for the first time ever my follicles all got active, 5 of them!!! That's a huge improvement over the oral meds which did nothing. I'm getting another blood test tomorrow b/c my first one yesterday came back "inconclusive."
