IUI Question

Hi, this is our first month trying the injections after six months of not responding to clomid.
I went in to the doc yesterday for my ultrasound and E2 levels. I have 2 follicles @ 19 and 2@ 18 and several other smaller ones. My E2 level was 1506 yesterday and I took the HCG trigger last night. I am scheduled for the IUI 36 hours following the trigger.
Please explain this to me, I am really confused. What are the numbers they are looking for? Is there a good chance this month?

Thanks

bbs4m3 -- welcome to FFT. sounds like you had a good cycle so far. hope it brings you a BFP.

you may also want to post over on the IUI board:
http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...splay.php?f=30

it seems to get a bit more traffic than here on the injectables board.

quick answer (it's been a while so i don't have all the details):
e2 is an indication of how many and how mature your follicles (follies) are. if it's too low they are not yet ready. if it's too high you may have too many. i don't recall the ranges they are looking for.

target follie size varies from doc to doc, and treatment to treatment. i think two in the 18-19mm range is great. the more follies you have, the higher the risk of multiples. some docs won't do iui with too many follies. typically all the ones in the target range will release at O (ovluation); some of the smaller ones may catch up

the trigger shot both forces you to ovulate, and gives your follies a bit of a boost for growth (at least i understand it).

for those doing one iui, 36 hours post trigger is very common. some women do 2 iuis (24 and 48 hours post trigger), but many clinics (including mine) do only one.

some women only get one follie a month (me, for example) and still get pg. two seems very promising. more than two and i'd be worried, but i was nervous about multiples.

keep asking questions, here and to the doc. write down the questions and answers so you can look back when you have more questions.

best of luck,
-tia
