just diagnosed
hi ladies,
i was just diagnosed with unexplained infertility. my HSG was normal and my bloodwork was normal and my cycles are regular. so DH is going to do a SA and if that comes back normal, my doc wants me to do 4 rounds of clomid. so here's my question, if im already ovulating, why the clomid?

Probably to give you more than one egg to ovulate and Clomid also helps with progesterone output. How long have you been TTC? I am sorry you got this diagnosis.

Has your DH done his SA yet? If not push him to get it done as there is more testing each of you can do to help with an unexplained DX.

I've seen studies that Clomid/IUI has a small increase in success for Unexplained Infertility and that Clomid alone is useless if not detrimental (e.g. vaginal dryness and thinned lining). All of my REs (yes, I've had four) only recommend Clomid/IUI for me, and the recent one thinks it's a waste of time for us but is willing to prescribe a cycle because I need to try it before moving on.

There are other anti-estrogens that you can use that do not have the same effect as Clomid.

I had the same question, and now we're debating whether to do an IUI/injectable cycle. Why use the drugs and spend the money if I'm ovulating normally? I've gotten from two drs that the drugs should increase ovulation, therefore providing more "targets" and increasing your chances.
Like ttcyears says, doing just the clomid probably would reduce your chances, clomid/iui is a good way to go. |
