Hi ladies,
I could really use your wisdom right now. I'm ovulating on my own, but my OB-GYN put me on clomid, after diagnosing me as "unexplained". His thinking is that the clomid will give me a leg up, more eggs, better chances. I took 100 mg from days 5 to 9. By cycle day 17 I was pretty much dry, so I ovulated sometime before that although it was hard to chart with all the bding and using preseed. I don't temp, because it stresses me out. I used to and determined over about six months that my luteal phase is 14 days. Before TTC, I had a set-you-clock-to-it 28 day cycle, and then it became very erratic. Anyway, I'm now on CD 30. This morning I woke to feelings that AF is coming and jumped on the internet only to find some stuff about clomid causing long cycles! (NICE of my OB-GYN to tell me this!) Why does clomid cause long cycles?? Could I just be in a clomid cycle? Thanks. Sorry so long.

I honestly have no clue why clomid increases cycle length.
![]() But i know when i would take it i would ovulate very late---we're talking day 18-day 20 late so my period would come usually about day 34 for me. But i do have PCOS and ovulating is a problem for me normally. My first thought honestly when you said you felt cramping today (and you are really sure you O'd around day 14) that it could be implantation pains. I'd give it a few more days and take a test just to be sure it's not the clomid or something else If that comes out -- then give your Ob a call and let him know. The last thing you want, especially being a normal cycle person, is to have delayed AFs all of a sudden. ![]() Good luck!!

I'm not sure either, but it did the same to me too. I am normally a 30-31 day girl, but Clomid pushed that to 34-35 days. After I took it, my OBGYN told me it could do this.
Have you started seeing a RE? I stayed with my OB/GYN for 3 Clomid and IUI cycles and moved on to a RE. It was her idea actually. She said if it didn't work in 3 cycles, I need to see a RE. Since seeing him, I have had 3 failed Follistim (injectible) and IUI cycles, and 1 IVF miscarry. Although I still don't have a baby, I do feel he is able to help me more than my Gyno could. Good luck to you and I would be interested too in finding out why Clomid lengthens cycles. Tiffany |
