I had it done in Nov 06 and will be having another one next cycle. Each person will be different, but overall its really not that bad - like bad period cramps and doesn't last that long. Its a very useful procedure though. Just take 2 tylenol before hand or some motrin.

Thanks for replying I appreciate the info. I'm nervous. Does it give more info about the state of your tubes than what a Laparoscopy would?

I don't have tubal problems but my HSG was painful for me. I guess it all depends on pain tolerance. When the put the dye in and had me roll to my sides it burned very bad. I have had 2 HSG's done and cried with both of them. I am not trying to scare you just wanted to tell you someone else's POV.

I've never had a laparoscopy done, so not sure on that. I think its easier and way less invasive, so I would opt for the HSG first. It gives a pretty good view of everything and where the tube is blocked (if it is)

Both my tubes were blocked at the entrance to the tube from the uterus. He was able to push clear the left side fairly easily right there, but was not able to clear the right. However, 2 cycles later the right tube cleared on its own. I passed some gray tissue during af and got pregnant that cycle. I didn't have a left ovary at the time, so I know it had to be that. I am actually looking forward to my next HSG to check on my tube. I think this should be the first test every woman should get as soon as they start ttc.

Hello*!!! wow I am sorry I am late in responding to this....

Have you had your HSG yet???

For me I have had 4 HSG's done and again not to scare you my 3rd one was horrible. The reason for so many was because each on was different. I had my first in Nov 1998 and it showed partial blockage in my right tube. That following Jan I had an ectopic pg that ended up needing emergency surgery to remove. The next HSG sometime that year (sorry don;t remember for sure) showed both tubes were open and nicely flowing. My 3rd one was during initial start up DX with my 2nd hubby. That one was sooo painful I had to make then stop while they were trying to open my right (they got it wrong on the films) side. The follwing month my RE did one under sedation...left side is blocked at my uterus.

Hi jrzy, lilpink, and Queen Valerie,
thanks for the responses. It helps me a lot. I'm going to go for a laparoscopy and maybe have the RE do the HSG while I'm under the anaesthetic as I'm real scared of pain . I've had two kids many years ago when I was in my early 20's with a previous relationship. I've tried many IUI's and have done 1 IVF and 1 FET and only got one chemical pregnancy from the fresh IVF. I've been ttc for almost 5 years now and I've just turned 36. Now I'm worried that not only is there something obviously wrong with me, but now I might be too old??? Everything declines after 35 (or so I've read) and rates of chromosomal problems in the baby etc goes up now also. I'm so worried and can hear the biological clock's pendulum hitting me over the head ...
It'll be about 3 weeks before I can go for the lap. I don't know how soon after that I could cycle... Feeling very sad and confused.
