Advise on tubal removal?

Hello,
My name is Jamie and DH and I have been TTC for almost two years. I was hoping to get some advise, as this site seems so supportive of others. Here's my history:

1997 - MC resulting in a D&C
1999 - Went to my OBGYN with complaints of pelvic pain - had a laparoscopy that day due to an infection.
1999 - HSG showed blocked left tube. OB said not to worry about it now since DH and I weren't TTC.
2003 - Started TTC
2004 - Went to OBGYN for annual - had to have a LEEP procedure due to abnormal cells. Husband had a SA, and it was low. OBGYN sent me to an RE.

In October, RE repeated HSG and DH's SA. Husband's SA was fine, but my HSG showed a uni-lateral hydrosalpinx (left side). The right appeared to be fine, but because of my surgery, my RE thinks it may not be functional. He wants to remove my left tube, but he also wants my permission to remove the right if he gets in there and sees it abnormal.

IVF with no surgery is an option. However, the chances of conceiving are half of what they would be if I had the bad tube out, but I risk losing both if I have the surgery. I'm having a hard time dealing with that. Maybe in the future but I'm only 26 (DH is 28). Should I just go for the IVF, or have surgery first? Thanks for all your thoughts!

I am 29 and dh 31. I had blocked tubes due to severe scar tissue. In 2001, we done our first IVF with the tubes in and ended in bfn. I began having problems with cysts in 2003/2004, my gyno wanted to due explorator surgery, but he wanted me to get a 2nd opinion from my RE. When he done an u/s it showed that both tubes were filled w/fluid and advised that the tubes come out b/f doing another IVF. He said it would increase our chances greatly. My dh and I discussed it and we decided to go ahead and have my tubes removed. I had a laprotomy in Sept 2004, and Jan 2005 we began doing our stims and I got a positive beta on 2/3 and I am now 5weeks. That was the right decision for us.

Everyone's situation is different and it is a hard one to make. There have been alot of women that have gotten pg w/blocked tubes. It does happen.

Good Luck,

Jen
