My sister's baby

I don't know if I shared that my sister recently had her first baby. I think I mentioned something about all the trouble she had late in her pregnancy.

Anyway, her dh is AA, so her ds is biracial, just like some of my kids. This baby is white, and has blue eyes. It's very odd. (and yet, looks just like his daddy, so it's not a question of paternity). My BIL also has three girls from a previous marriage, and they are a lot darker than the latest arrival. I sure hope he gets some color soon, or this poor baby's going to have a complex! All the kids on my side of the family are of color, and he's going to be the odd-man out, looking so light.

I watch my nephew while my sister and her dh are at work, and today was one of those days. After Daphne's gymnastics class, we met my dh at the mall to get new cell phones. (mine was on it's last limb. really needed a new one) And I was thinking about my sister's baby. I reminded me of when Daphne was born. We hadn't seen her yet, and when talking with the agency, they told me that she was really light. "You can't even tell she's biracial." And that just bugged me. Because it was like it was very important to look as white as possible.

Sorry, I should be taking my cold medicine and hopping in bed, but instead I am having random thoughts online. I think this head cold is scrambling my brains.

Jen, thanks for sharing that adorable picture of Sammy. We've been teasing my sister about her baby's color. Horrible, sisterly things like, "It's a good thing he looks like your dh, or we'd really wonder!" It will be nice when he darkens up, though. I also tease my sister that I have the only girl grandchild on our side of the family. (And she's beautiful and smart and sweet so HA HA HA HA HA!) I know, I'm terrible, but it's one of the perks of being oldest. Besides, she's a cop. She could defend herself if she really felt the need. LOL

That reminds me, though, of a comment that she and her dh got, with the baby, while in the grocery store checkout. (WHY do the grocery stores get the most stupid comments?!?) The cashier was commenting on how white their baby is. Then she said, "You can tell he's biracial by his NOSE." Can you freakin' believe that?!? This is my sister's first baby, too. She's more on the grumpy side then I am. She must have been holding the baby, because that's the only reason I can think of that the idiot woman didn't get knocked to the floor. And Trina said the woman actually continued to speak after that!

Anyway, thanks for listening to my rants and random thoughts.
