So I finally got my book from my cousin - it is about a 4 inch think file of mostly, printouts from a software program, then about 50 pages of pictures. Basically I paid $65 for a printout of her master file (thought hte pics are great). I asked if I could get a copy of the file, and she said no (since she did not give it to anybody in the family)...... is this strange? She said she has been doing research for 30+ years...... I am not sure what that has to do with it?? Maybe I am wrong here, and feel free to tell me, I just think it is going to take me many hours to input it into the software program, (and she also has many pages with "error" on it).... why would she not want to share the file but would print it out.
I can't do anything about it, but curious on your thoughts?

Hmmmm, I myself find this odd. I know my FIL (who has been researching longer than 30 yrs.) would have no problem with sharing. He sends a new binder to everyone in the family about every 5 years, when he has compiled a bunch of new info. He has never charged either. Did she give you a specific reason??? $65 is a lot of $$$$ too for info that is between family. Perhaps she charges so she can use some of that to further her research??
I'm sorry you have so much info to transfer, do a little at a time so it's not overwhelming. Let me know if you need any help. What software did you decide on???

Well it gets worse, all the pictures are in black and white (I have a couple of the pics from my aunt in color), so I asked her if I could get them in color - she said no, due to costs....... I paid $65 (my aunt only paid $45), what the heck!!!

It sounds like she is in this for the money. Kind of weird--most genealogists practically shower you with information when you express even a small interest!
Maybe she does family research for a living and that is why "30 years" is salient?
