  1. Not sharing.....

So I finally got my book from my cousin - it is about a 4 inch think file of mostly, printouts from a software program, then about 50 pages of pictures. Basically I paid $65 for a printout of her master file (thought hte pics are great). I asked if I could get a copy of the file, and she said no...

  4. WHat software do you use to keep track of your information?

I have an old version of something, but it won't work with Vista. It's outdated anyway, and I want something else. What do you use?

  6. Has anyone heard of this site?

Genealogybank.com I just received an email about it. I wish they had a free trial period, but it is $9.95 for a 30 day trial. It does let you search a name, but if you try to further, it asks for a credit card #. Just thought I'd pass it along... Tea~*

  9. not even sure where to begin,,,

Well all of my life my paternal grandma has treated me with indifference, never going out of her way to hurt me, but never going out of her way to hug me or spend time with me either. Thankfully my maternal grandma was always there for me to hug me, give advice, scold me, kiss my owwies, etc,,,so...

  11. transcribing a cemetery?

Have you ever thought of doing this? I live 1000 miles from where my side of the family has it's roots so it has been very hard to research my family history. DH's family are all from here so his was much much easier. I transcribed a small cemetery in town and sent it in to be placed...

  12. Has there been anyone in your family tree that has intrigued you?

I had a hard time finding my maternal great-grandfather. No one seemed to know much about him and there was a lot of hush hush about his death. I looked for months online for him and it took about a half dozen times at the archives in my home state before I found his death certificate. As excited...

  13. Free access to ancestry.com via LDS Family History Centers

I came across this announcement today about free access to ancestory.com. You don't have to be LDS (Mormon) to use their family history centers. In fact, about half the users are typically non-LDS. There is no cost unless you need to order a roll of microfilm or something, but that is pretty rare...

  18. Discovering My Roots

Hi all! I am the product of an overseas adoption and am currently searching for part of my family. I was adopted in Germany by an American family and brought to the states when I was younger. 6 years ago I found my birth mother and discovered that I had an older sister and a half-brother. Every...

  19. Another connection

A guy emailed me from france with some information on MIL's family line. I am so thrilled. He had some information about some of the children that I didn't have mostly death dates. One died at sea running opium from China. The Bible information list the name of the ship so I'll be looking it up...

  20. Site for penny postcards.

This is not totally on topic, but thought I'd share. It's kind of neat to see what the area you grew up in (or had ancestors from) looked like way back when. Click on your state and county to check it out. Tea~*

  21. Have you found any famous ancestors?

Once I got past my mother's grandfather, he was a difficult find-lots of mystery surrounding him (long story), I found out that his father was a pro baseball player in the 1880's. There were a few long write ups on him in the papers when died. Just wondering what anyone else has found that was...

  22. Ok, now onto German ancestors

I haven't gotten to work on my tree in a while, but now that I'm done with a class and I'm looking at some down time when we're actively in the 2WW I'm looking forward to looking again. Anyone know of good sites for German ancestors that are in English? I have my greatgrandfather's name,...

  23. I found her

I've been looking for DH's step Grandfather's Mom in the census' and I finally found her and her first husband. Grandpa B's bio father. I've been looking for her off and on for the last two years. At times common names make it sooo hard.

  25. All about names...

Thought I would share some interesting regarding names. Until about 1100 A.D., most people in Europe only had one name. (This is still true in some primitive countries today.) As the population increased, it became awkward to live in a village wherein perhaps 1/3 of the males were named John,...
