Question Ovulation Testing

Hello everybody,

My periods are 39 days apart and I like to know what might be good for me to try and predict my Ovulation. I have heard about the OV-watch, clearblue easy fertility monitor, and checking my cervical mucus. I have been trying the Basal Thermometer along with the Ovulation pee sticks, but the are a bit costly after awhile if you know what I mean. So any tips or advice would be nice Thank you

If I had known it was going to take me 2++ years TTC, I would have bought a fertility monitor. But who thinks this way? I've now spent a fortune in pee sticks.

I've used them, charted my BBT and my mucus. Unless your ovulation is really erractic, after several months, you can become an expert in pinpointing when it will occur without have to use too many of the sticks.

That being said, I use the pee sticks twice a day when I'm nearing O. The question becomes, do you want to save $ or do you want to chance missing O?

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is really helpful in mastering your cycle. Good luck!

I'm trying to save money, to find a way to pinpoint when I'm Ovulating. I heard that when you use the OV-watch I can use the pee sticks to track when i'm Ovulating, but I also heard that A person like me might not be able to use it because my periods are 39 days apart and the OV-watch only go up to 38 days.

I don't know how the Clearblue fertility monitor works! can someone help me with that?

I kind of heard bad things about the OV watch. I liked the clearblue easy fertillity monitor though.....if your AF is pretty regular....you can just wait longer to start the sticks...they usually start you on day 6-10 but if you know you don't ovulate till day 20 you could just start using sticks say on day 15 or so....you can get it on ebay for much less money...

Sure! This is the best, most aggressive route if you ask me. You get the HCG shot and then inseminate the next day (and next day too if you are using 2 insems per cycle). And it seems to have very little incidents of side effects.

The hardest part of IUI (for us, not the Dr) seems to be predicting ovulation. Clomid can cause false positives on OPKs. We used it and had a positive on CD8, 9 and 10 - that can't be right (naturally over the weekend so there was no one to call)! So we went to our RE for the US and BW. When the US shows folicles that are 18-23mm (ours did), they give you the HCG shot and perform the IUI the next 2 days. This is nice because they can ensure you have good folicles that are maturing and are big enough and are nice and round (they look more squished after ovulation). You want to do IUI BEFORE ovulation for slightly better results.

Do a search for HCG and you'll find lots of info!

I just wanted to post my two cents. I have the fertility monitor, ov watch and ovulation test sticks. I use them all. I have pcos so a lot of the times, the sticks won't work, but the watch and monitor will pick them up. Clomid can interfere b/c it stays in your system for a while. I'm on femara which doesn't stay long in your system, I took my hcg shot on the 19th and got postitives from the sticks and monitor ( you have to wear the watch everyday after day 3 at least or it'll cancel out the cycle and you'll have to wait until the next one to use the watch and you must wear it for at least an hour) the positives were on friday and saturday. I get my beta on wed so we'll find out if the monitor and sticks were helpful. On the directions they tell you if you're talking clomid or have pcos that it can give you false readings, so just make sure you read the instructions. BTW...you can get the monitors pretty cheap on ebay. The ov watch is expensive around 300 bucks or so. Try drugstore.com sometimes they have sells on them.
