conception kit clinical trial

Hello,

I found something great to share with you. This weekend I was googling some infertility links (as usual).

I found a kit online at conceptionkit.com. It features a new concept for conceiving using a cervical cap. The basics are, you and DH have intercourse with semen collection condom, take semen and pour it into cap, place cap onto cervix (it kind of suctions on and stays in) and that is the gist of it.

Upon researching further I found a clinical trial for this conception kit. Below is a link to the Forbes article that came out yesterday. It is a legitimate clinical trial and the products are FDA approved. They do want you to fill out a questionnaire and try the kit once that is it. You get the entire $499 kit free and they only ask that you try it for one month. The kit contains three months worth of: OPK, HPTs, 3 semen collection condoms and 3 cervical caps.

This morning (June 6) I spoke with one of the lead physicians and told him of my friends at Fertile Thoughts and asked if he needed more participants. He said yes, but you all might want to hurry as the local ABC news picked up the press release and are doing a huge story on this trial and that they are recruiting for it. He said he is certain that ABC at the national morning and evening news level will pick up the story too and then there will not be anymore openings.

I asked if we have permission to do this while on follicle stimulating drugs and he said yes, the main point of this study is NOT to see if people get pregnant on this kit, but to see if we can understand the directions. They are tweaking the directions so that they are foolproof.

The coordinator's info is Michael LaVean, in your re: line tell him you heard of it through Heather and the clinical trial reference # is NCT0032665

Michael's e-mail is: lavean@hotmail.com

Also, I am in no way compensated financially or otherwise for sharing this with you. Just wanted you to know about something great I'm going to try on my next cycle while we take a one month rest financially.

Sincerely,

heather

Heather,

Just now found your post. Thanks so much for sharing that. I wrote to Michael to volunteer for the trial. I'm surprised more women haven't responded to your thread. Maybe you should try posting on the IVF board.

It's great info.

hey ruth

Hello Ruth,

Thanks for writing. It is pretty neat stuff. Have you been to conceptionkit.com to see what it's all about? As you may have read in my post, this product is already on the market, it is already FDA approved and being sold daily...this study is strictly to make sure the average gal can comprehend the directions.

I think it is so worth it to get this $459 kit with three months of freebies in it.

Michael is a delight to work with thus far. I did start a thread or two on the IUI boards and the Over 35 boards as those are the ones I'm usually on.

I'm still hopeful that my first IUI last week was a "keeper". But, in case it isn't I am glad to have this cervical cap method as my Plan B.

Keep me posted. There are a lot of gals that have signed up so far. Maybe we could start our own thread?

Sincerely,

heather

Conceptionkit.com clinical trial deadline is 6/9

Hi everyone,

Our board coordinator for the IUI boards, Tanya spoke with the study directors yesterday and they said that today is the last day to sign up.

With the press releases and ABC news picking up the story it has been a big "sign up" week for them and they had to put a deadline on this.

If you want more information refer to original post #1 and #2 to get the details.

Best wishes,

heather

A cheap way to go is with the "Instead" cups that are sold at Walgreens and Walmart's. They cost about $5 and you can either put them in after sex or put cup of semen directly in. Low cost and it helps not lose the semen after intercourse. You can find these, by the tampons and pads.

Jade - You and I were thinking the same thing! I read about the conception kit and have thought about joining the trial, but I remembered my Instead cup too. It's like a giant diaphram, supposed to hold in your menstral blood, but I think it would work great for holding sperm in too.
The other thing is that your Ob/Gyn can prescribe a diaphram or cervical cap (both of those are "sized" and must be fitted) and your insurance can pay for it!
My experience with a diaphram was that it was very hard to get positioned just right around the cervix. I had to squirt the spermicide in (just like you would have to hold the semen in) then fold it together and slide it up without everything leaking out. I only tried it a few times before giving up. The cap is 1/2 the size of the diaphram and from what I heard, even tricker to get on. Now, compared to those, the Instead is HUGE - so it should be much easier!
Just some lower cost options for ya'll!

Sucess!!! We concieved using the Instead Cup as a conception cup!

We have struggled with infertility for 3+ yrs, got pregnant, miscarried at 8 wks, and then had 6 more months of infertilty before achieving sucess using the instead cup! Woohoo!

The sucess formula for us was:
1. bed as soon as felt CM for "O (Well, within hours)
2. used PreSeed (dh has liquifaction problems)
3. Immediatly inserted the Instead cup (while still laying down)
4. And last, but not least, the ever-touted though "never" effective for us: propping up and remaining in bed for 1 hr afterwards.

I really think we have the right formula for us, and if this pregnancy isn't sticky(Please, God, let it be sticky), I think we could do it again.
