When having a log in error or refusal message trying to log on to the chat please check the following:
If your cookies are enabled in your board settings (check under user cp), try to REFRESH the page after you logged-in..
If they are disabled you have two options:
a) Enable Cookies: If a user enabled COOKIES BOTH in her browser AND inside the boards’ user cp/options, the board will identify her from the cookie while she is browsing through the board pages (from a technical perspective our chat room entry page is basically “just” another board page)
b) If the user does not want to enable cookies our boards still work well with what’s called Session Hash. It’s a unique number created by the server for a member, every time she visits the board. It's alive until she leaves the board and in a sense acts as a temporary cookie.
There shouldn’t be any problems with cookie enabled users - if they can accept cookies and set their board settings to accept cookies all should be fine.
There shouldn’t be any problems also with users who set their board settings not to accept cookies. This is because the board will know them by the session hash from now on including when they go to visit the chat.
However there can be problems with members who choose to accept cookies in their board settings (that was the default option when registering so if you didn’t change it that is your setting right now) but their browser deny accepting cookies (which is default option in Windows XP IE 6.0). The boards cannot know that the user’s browser is not set to accept cookies so it tries to identify the user by cookies and is not successful resulting in the user being kicked out… The fix however is easy: in your board settings you should disable accepting cookies. This can be hard for you since you may have problems to login. If so please advise here and we will do it for you or you may have to re-login every time you click a link until you reach the user cp/options page and make the change there after which all should be fine.
By the way - the chat requires that you have a browser that is java enabled. If you dont have java enabled please enable it. If you use Windows XP and/or dont have java please download it from http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.
Hope this helps
