Figuring DUE DATE from an IVF transfer
You'd think everyone would be on the same page since the moment of conception is EXACT!!! Well we had a due date by the RE, the counselor had a slightly different due date, then the RE changed the due date. I know this is a misnomer since most babies are NOT born on their due date, but I have to fill out information so our rights can be finalized and a judgement of paternity given.... and of course it asks the DUE DATE!!!
So when you do IVF, how do you figure due date? Do you use the transfer date and you are 2 weeks prengnant on that date? Or do you use the retrieval date?

Hi Mav. I have always used the retrieval date as the date of conception on gone from there. There are many calculators available that can figure they due date based on the date of conception but the rule is 38 weeks from that day would be your due date.

I agree with Stacy, you count 38w from the date of retrieval. However, for all three of my surrogate pregnancies (1 IVF and 2 FETs), despite what EDD each RE gave us, my OB changed that date based on the measurements at our first U/S at 10w. I would go with the EDD that your OB is using.

my dr told me this - for a 3 day transfer you substract 12 days and add nine months. If it was a day 5 transfer you subtract 14 days and add nine months.
Dont know if that helps or not? |

So now we have 3 ways to figure EDD from IVF... a very exact way of conception-LOL!
![]() 1. 2 weeks pregnant at time of egg retrieval 2. 2 weeks pregnant at time of transfer 3. Substract 12 days & add nine months from the 3 day transfer 4. Subtract 14 days & add nine months from the 5 day transfer.

Since you go back to the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), to get your first day of the pregnancy, and conception supposedly takes place 14 days later, I've always heard that with a 3dt you are considered 17 days pregnant on the day of transfer and 19 days with a 5dt. Add that one to your list!
