    DS rolling over ...

    Hi everyone .
My DS just turned 6 months old . Last week we moved him to his full size crib . Everything seemed to be going well . We had 1 fussy night , but after that he seemed calm and quite comfy going to bed in his crib for naps and at night .

My DS has been a somewhat lazy roller ! lol . He refuses . He hates tummy time . He sleeps on his back or on his side . Which he will roll to one side or the other on his own . But the last 2 days he is rolling from back to belly by himself in his crib and a couple times on his baby gym . My problem is it scares him badly ! After he rolls to his belly , he freaks out and screams . He can't seem to roll himself back over ( yet ) . I have to go in right away as soon as I hear him and roll him over or in some cases hold him and cuddle him until he stops crying because he gets so scared . I just watched him roll over in his sleep and wake up screaming . I don't know what to do .

This is becoming a problem for many reasons ! 1) I can't sleep well now . 2) I'm affraid he'll smother . 3) it scares him so bad , now he is completely fighting sleep .

What can I do to help him ? I feel like I need to stop these roll overs in his crib ! I'm scared something will happen to him . I can't stay awake forever ! And his moods are terrible , because he is tired too and NOT getting enough quality sleep right now . ( Not to mention my moods ) . Is this all normal ? What can I do ?

    Thanks everyone .
    Michele

Totally normal. Not what you want to hear, but once they can rollover in their crib at night, the generally are fine. I had many sleepless nights when dd started rolling over in her crib at night. I would suggest more tummy time to get him to learn to roll from front to back. It is ok that he is fussing on his tummy. He needs to learn to roll the other way. I am not saying to just leave him there for long periods of time. But it is ok for 5 minutes tort him get frustrated. He will figure it out!

i agree with sun8.... its normal. DS only just quit waking himself up whacking into the rail rolling in his sleep. now he only rolls over if he actually wakes up. ever since he could choose he slept on his tummy. we did loads of 'tummy time' on our king size bed... he liked the surface a lot and i was there with him... that and the mirror so he could see himself..

It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour. 'A Christmas Carol'.

Yep, I went through that stage with both boys. With DS1 it took a while for him to get used to being on his tummy or realizing that he could roll back himself so that was a bunch of sleepless nights. With ds2, he got used to it after 2 days! He only sleeps on his tummy at this point and can easily roll all over the place.

Just make sure you do not have crib bumpers, blanket, pillow, or stuffed animals in the crib. That would be the most danger if he got his face against any of these!

We used one of these from the time Annaliese was 3 months old until just a couple of weeks ago.

I was scared to death about her rolling over on her tummy and so we searched and searched for a solution and this is what we found. It worked for us.
