Is there a need to look for miracles & angels when there's mystery in life itself?

What do you think?

Ok going out on a limb here, I usually try to avoid these kinds of topics unless I really know the group, I hate flaming and I hate being made to feel small and stupid in my thought process, if you are wondering where you can feel like that check out the debate bb LOL.

In my opinion there is more of a need fo believe in and look for miracles and angels now then ever before in time. Yes the mystery of life is large on its own, but in this time of science and technology, there is someone with an answer and theory for everything. I think we have to look harder now to see everyday miracles and to see the work of angels among us and scientist would have us believe they can answer all and there is a reason for everything without miracles. I think things that were so obviously a miracle two hundred years ago might be seen diffirently with the technology of today , maybe take for granted or not seen for the true miracle it is.
I think we are living in a society that wants to close its eyes many times to miracles because they are afraid it means there is more to the universe then they see and they are not the center of it or as important in it as they think they are.

Cyndi..
I couldn't agree with you more.. We have moved away from a more simple existence to a place where everyday miracles are overlooked.
I hope to see one miracle or instance of God (angels) watching over me everyday.
Of course, my two little FET miracles are with me everyday, and yet I see more. Like when you just KNOW you are about to have a wreck, and at the last minute you or the "other guy" see it and avoid it.
I heard a story once about someone talking to God and seeking an answer.. a sign that He was out there. A butterfly landed on his shoulder (which is a rare thing) and he brushed it away.
We are all capable of performing miracles in the lives of strangers, if we but look for the need and act on it without hesitation. Not out of a need to do a "good deed", but of allowing God to work through us..

To Cyndi's point, before microscopes and telescopes were invented, the entire microscopic world of germs, cells etc. was not known to exist. Nor were the galaxies, other solar systems, other suns.

To be told of those things at that time (think Galileo) was seen by some as a miracle, by others as evidence of demonic activity, and by still others, simply not believed. Can't see it? It doesn't exist.

We know now that the microscopic and telescopic worlds always have existed. It is the same with what we still do not understand. It is not that the spiritual world does not exist, or is demonic or miraculous. It simply IS - and we do not yet have the tools - the "spiritscope" with which to see it clearly.

Im not one to post of this either, but I think that it is important for some people to BELIEVE that miracles do happen and to look for them. With all the bad things going on in the world it gives people something GOOD to believe in. Sometimes those who have suffered through horrible losses of family etc. get through each day believing that their loved ones are now angels looking over them. THose who are losing family or loved ones want to believe in miracles even when no hope is given. ITs what gives them hope. I do believe there is mystery in life alone, and I do think that miracles and angels are part of lifes mysterys for those who have yet to encounter them. I believe in miracles, BECAUSE i have seen one.

"...Her voice was so low that at first he could not make out
what she said. Then he made it out. She was saying that
she thought she could get well again if children believed in
fairies.

Peter flung out his arms. There were no children there,
and it was night time; but he addressed all who might be
dreaming of the Neverland, and who were therefore nearer to
him than you think: boys and girls in their nighties, and
naked papooses in their baskets hung from trees.

"Do you believe?" he cried.

Tink sat up in bed almost briskly to listen to her fate.

She fancied she heard answers in the affirmative, and then
again she wasn't sure.

"What do you think?" she asked Peter.

"If you believe," he shouted to them, "clap your hands;
don't let Tink die."

Many clapped.

Some didn't.

A few beasts hissed.

The clapping stopped suddenly; as if countless mothers had
rushed to their nurseries to see what on earth was
happening; but already Tink was saved. First her voice grew
strong, then she popped out of bed, then she was flashing
through the room more merry and impudent than ever. She
never thought of thanking those who believed, but she would
have like to get at the ones who had hissed."

From... Peter Pan.

My 70 yo father in-law saw this in a theater in London as a child. He still remembers this as a magical moment when Peter turns to the audience and asks them to clap their hands to save Tink....

I usually try and to avoid this topic as well. On a personal level, I feel that miracles happen to us all the time. Just like I feel, angels are among us every single day.
I have had a miracle or two happen in my life which caused be to become more of a spirtual person. For many many years I was like many people in the world who, refuse to believe in miracles or a " Higher Calling" until, I had one happen. Just had another miracle happen again within the week.

As for my personal beliefs regarding Angels well, I am a believer that, many people have more than 1 angel that, they can aquire throughout their lifetime. I have had many many interesting discussions w/h my priest on this subject as well.

I don't think we have too look hard to find a miracle or have an Angel help you out... Both happen all the time! Subconsiously we tell ourselvs that we are crazy, That didn't happen OR This happened because of whatever reason when, really it was an Miracle that just occured or one's on personal angel helping out.

miracles happen every day. People just don't see them or if they do see them, they take them for granted. Did a loved one recently have an accident and the doctor said "its a miracle she/he wasn't hurt worse!" That is a miracle. God watches over us and delivers little miracles all the time, the key is knowing how to recognize them.

Angels absolutely do exist. Many a person has allowed in a stranger and by doing so entertained an angel unaware..
Abraham was visited by angels, Mary was visited by an angel (annoucing to her that she had been chosen to bear the Christ), Joseph saw an angel in a dream (telling him to marry his betrothed Mary and not worry over her pregnancy as it was from God). The book of Revelations speaks of angels letting loose the 4 winds and ushering in the tribulation. Now that we are in the End Times, it is especially important to see that angels play a powerful role in God's plan. Michael and Gabriel will be back to announce the second coming. Listen for the trumpet's call and watch for them!

i just posted this movie recommendation in our list of resources so i thought i post it here as well. if you believe in angels and haven't seen this film (the original in German) you are in for a treat...

Wings of Desire (1988) A Wim Wenders film (in German). I think this movie's openning scene is my favorite ever. Here is how it starts: "There are angels over the streets of Berlin," quotes the movie poster, but these are like no angels you've ever seen. Bundled in dark overcoats, they watch over the city with ears open to the heartbeat of the human soul, listening to the internal musings and yearnings of earthbound humans like existential detectives. In these delicate, astounding scenes we float through the thoughts of dozens Berlin citizens, from the weary and worn to the hopeful and young, as the angels record the magic moments for some heavenly record.
