well this is Bobbi from Pa. i was on the thread for multiples, but i seen there was no thread on this subject, so i thought i would start one.
i am 13 weeks pregnant and at 12 weeks i found out that we lost one of our twins. the other is doing well. but i never heard the term vanishing twin in my life. it is when one twin just can't sustain life. it usually happens in the first trimester. they say it is very common. but most women don't even know because they usually don't get your first u/s until later in your pregnancy. but me being high risk, i already had 3. at 6 weeks they found 2 sacks with only one heart beat. at 9 weeks they seen two heartbeats. (twins) at 12 weeks there again was only one heartbeat and the little one had not grown any since the 2nd u/s. we were heartbroken. the doc. said there was nothing i could have done differently, but i still can't help feeling guilty. i'm just looking for someone else who has gone through this. so i know i'm not alone. i know i'm not alone cause there are alot of websites on the subject, but nothing too personal like this one. so if you have been through this and would like to talk to someone who also has been through it i would appreciate it.

This is the exact thing i went thought. I found out at 5 1/2 weeks that i was pregnant with twins. At my next u/s both babies had a HB but twin B was a lot slower. I had a couple more u/s and twin a was always on track with a good heartbeat. My twin B did grow a little but the sac was so much smaller. At about 10 weeks I went to work and went to the bathroom and was bleeding heavy clots. I went to the ER and was told twin A was moving around and doing just great but there was no baby in the other sac. The sac measured about 7wks. Then around week 18 i strated to bleed again, I was so freaked out. I went to hospital and they told me the bleeding came from the empty sac finally leaving my body. I am 24 weeks and I still have spotting from that sac leaving my body. I go to my high risk dr every week for them to check me. They told me the bleeding is not affecting the remaining baby.
I was told not all people bleed when they have a vanishing twin.

I Had No Bleeding At All. Had No Idea There Was Anything Wrong. I Did Have Some Abdomanal Cramps, Kinda Like Menstral Cramps, But That Has Left Now. I Am Alittle Over 13 Weeks Now. And Can Hardly Tell I'm Pregnant. Not Showing Much, Jeans Are Alittle Tight, Just Cant Button Them. No More Cramping, Still Have A Big Appitite. Lol. Haven't Gained Much Weight Yet, Maybe 2 Lbs. But I Am Small To Begin With. 104 When I Found Out I Was Pregnant. When I First Found Out That The Little One Didn't Make It, I Couldn't Get It Out Of My Head. Thought About It All The Time. Still Do Now And Then. But It Is Getting Better. Can't Wait Till I Can Feel This One Moving. Just To Ease My Mind. Thanks For Answering, It Makes Me Feel Better To Know I'm Not Alone. Keep Me Updated On The Healthy Baby, And I'll Do The Same.

I was 8 weeks preggo with twins when my second vanished although we never seen a fetal pole only a normal sized sac. I didn't have any bleeding with mine, but I do have a healthy 21 month old conceived on clomid and metformin (pcos). Hope all is well.Good Luck!

I am doing well with baby a still doing fine. I'm alittle over 22 weeks preggo now. I found out this one is a boy.
He is very active, I can feel him moving every time i sit or lye down to rest. he is much more active than my daughter was at this point. My daughter turned 20 years old today. Now i'm starting over with this little man. she is so excited, she has waited along time for a brother or sister. lol. My husband and i just figured we are 38 years old now , so it is now or never. So i've been off the pill for 2 and a half years and i wasn't sure it was going to happen, but it did and now my husband is getting his boy!!!! That makes all of us happy!!!! I'll probably get my tubes tied after him, but not positive yet. My pregnancy has been going so well except for that one little mishap. I think i could give him a playmate in a year or two. Who knows? Well thanks for commenting "baby-crazy" I'm glad to hear your 21 month old is doing well and has no ill effects from the vanishing twin. I'm hoping for the same results. thanks again.
