    Hi Danasingle,
I'm also single in Western Canada, was married, have one wonderful son and going for donor IUI soon. Can you tell me which bank you ended up using? Also I'm trying to find out all the details about what open donor means? ie what are the eventual rights of the child and does the donor have any right to find out about the child? I just want to make sure I have covered everything and of course want to protect the child from any potential emotional harm...ie I would like the option for the child's sake to find out info about the donor but wouldn't want the donor being able to contact us if the child chose to not want to know anything about him. Do you know more about this?
    Thanks for your help.
    R

    m/c ment'd

    Hi!

    Welcome to FT.

I used donor sperm from Xytex, because when I started DIUI's 10 years ago, my choice was only Xytex or Repromed. At the time, Xytex had a better reputation when I polled cyber boards. I do not know which banks you can use now---your clinic would know though.

Because I've had 5 m/c's from this donor, I took my RE's advice and chose a new donor this time. He is an 'identity' release donor. What that means is, if you follow the bank's guidelines, identifying information from the donor will be released TO THE CHILD when they are 18. I have not read anywhere that the sperm donor would contact the child.

    Good luck!
