For those of you with external drives for backups....

What size did you get? I saw on QVC this morning they have a 320 Gb one. That seems like overkill for what we have: 1 desktop and 1 laptop. So, I don't really want to spend that much money if most of the space will be wasted.

So what size did you buy? Where did you get it? How much was it? Pros/cons? What would you have change or recommend to do differently for someone else?

Mainly, I'd like my music, pics and some documents. I already burn most pics onto CD's. However, there are some old ones on there that I don't think I have on discs.

Any input greatly appreciated Thanks!

My EHD is about 4 years old, and still has plenty of room. Back then, I bought 120 gb, and that was one of the bigger ones they made. I can't remember if it's from Best Buy, or maybe Target. Just like all tech stuff, the memory keeps inceasing and the prices do drop. I wouldn't go for the largest memory, if you can find a smaller one for much less. The trend these days seems to be in making them smaller, so they are easily transportable, and I can see the reasoning in that. It's an easy way to move info from one computer to another.

Oh, no! Have you taken it in to someone to see if there is any way to retrieve your photos?

Mine sounds like Rae's. We bought it from Best Buy and it still has plenty of room. Actually need to move 2008 photos there soon.

I still worry about it crashing though. Thinking I need to copy photos to one of the online storage options. How many back-ups will be enough??

My DH tried too but couldn't so I need to contact the company to see if they can.
