My super expensive Nikon got drenched in water last October. I was able to dry it out and it limped along for quite awhile. It still works, but the viewfinder is screwy and it doesn't recognize power off anymore. So the lens won't go back in so you can put the cover on and it runs the batteries down so you have to take the battery out. Needless to say, not an ideal situation.
Back in May at preschool graduation I was really lamenting the fuss, but dh said I didn't need a new camera. Well this morning when I was trying to take pictures of the first day of school I was griping some more. I told him at lunch that I was going to buy a new camera today so I would be ready for the important pictures tomorrow. He said okay, so I ran out and got one.
I had been researching a bit so I knew I wanted a Canon Digital Elph or Kodak Easy Share. Once I played with them I decided I liked the Canon best. I went to Best Buy and had them price match to Walmart on the SD600.
After having it exactly three hours I can say this is the most amazing camera. I complained from day one about my Nikon in low light. Tonight I actually took pictures of the dog outside in the yard (after dark), and of dh in the living room with the lights off. It looks like broad daylight, and without the blurry focus you normally get.
I got it for $300 which is amazing compared to what my last one cost, but I would spend it again and again. If you are in the market....it is worth every penny!! My only complaint was that it uses SD cards and my other one was Mini Disc, so I have to invest in all new storage...I can live with that!!

When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take that step into the darkness of the unknown,
we must believe that one of two things will happen:
there will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly. ~ Frank Outlaw

isn't it amazing what a really good camera can do? When I got my digital rebel, I was just mad at myself for taking so long to buy it because all my pictures prior to the rebel could have been so much better! share some of the pics you took - can't see too much of S!

I have the Elph too and really like it. Still hope to get a Rebel one day - maybe if I'm good Santa will bring it
Have fun with it - the portrait setting works well too. I use it for work and, um, no one ever sees it and I get the pix I need. We'll leave it at that!! LOL!
