New Member here....
Hello everyone I am new to fertilethoughts.com I am happy to see that there is a same gender community and hoping to meet some people here that could share their stories with me. My partner and I are trying to conceive but are filled with so many questions, and honestly are clueless about this. Anyone out there willing to chat with me please let me know?

Well this is my story my partner and I would like to conceive a child, me carrying, via artificial insemination... We are so confused when it comes to IVF, IUI, and ICI. My health insurance does cover some things, but it seems like they do if only you have infertility issue. I do not know if I do, or will have those problems because we are just attempting to try this now. We have located a sperm bank in NYC that would would like to use...but again the process is so confusing. I go to the gyno on the 22nd of september and we plan to explain to him that we want to try to get pregnant...
lol this is so confusing...

I suggest that you tell your OB/Gyn that you are trying right now and have him/her write it in your chart. Most insurance won't cover you for anything unless you have been "trying" for 6-12 months, depending on your insurance. It's silly and somewhat biased, but it's the way things work. You might try vaginal inseminations at home for a few cycles under the guidance of your gyno or the sperm bank and move on to other more aggressive treatment if they don't work. I don't know how old you are. That is a factor as well.
Best of luck! Didi |

HI and welcome
We did AI. I believe our insurance had to show so many months of trying so I had done the BBT charts and we had tried ourselves with a known donor with no luck Then we did clomid with IUI's. THen heavier drugs with IUI, then IVF. We were successful with IVF and then FET. But we started with an adoption so we have 3 at home. THere is lots of help here on varous FT boards and lots of us here who went through different avenues to make our families! Ask away and ye shall get an answer! Amy |

btw i am 28 years old.. i'll be 29 in december
my partner did want to try a few times at home, she thought it would be more special if we at least tried without the doctors or jumping right into a procedure... again i go to the obgyn on september 22nd, ill tell him that we are trying to conceive..the sperm bank we found needs the ok from a dr. or at least needs a drs signature then written consent if we are going to try at home, they at least want to know you under someones care i believe...if i get him to sign off then...ill try to do the at home for 6 + months...if unsuccessful then we will move onto the next... the sperm bank we found is in our state is 2 hours from us but they only ship out, i wish there was some place local we could find, so we could go there to pick up, i hear it saves on the shipping costs... i also found a fertility center 10 miles from my house that does iui and ivf, but they dont do ici and they say they take most insurance...but again i feel like my insurance wont assist me...according to everything they sent me says they will cover 6 ivf procedures.. but thats after 20 other steps were taken and you didnt conceive like extensive fertility tests... idk im so nervous .. especially us being a same sex couple i feel like im not going to get much help with this.... |

my wife and i had our daughter though AI of ici and iui's it took up 1 year of me taking my temp (thats what the BBT is basil body temp) then 3 months of actual AI. No drugs were used other then an hurb i cant remember what it is at the moment but i took it the last try. I was 24 when i concived Brooke. Our son was though adoption so we have only went though the process once. Our insurance did not cover anything until we found out after the fact, but the clinc we used did not take INS so it was no biggy anyways. Out clinc is here is cali. i am not sure where you are at but the clink/bank we used does ship and have a couple offices and work primarly with gay couples. if you want more info let me know
