Are Ronen and I leaving Fertile Thoughts?
No. We’re staying on with Fertile Thoughts and will continue to drive editorial content, oversee the discussion forums, and develop new features for the site. We’ll just have a lot more support now to do all of this.
Why did we sell?
Over the past 12 years, we’ve worked hard adding new content and develop new programming for Fertile Thoughts. Our passion has always been about the family – for those who are starting their journey to building a family, to those who are in process, and to those who are already there. We care about what we do and we care about you.
We’ve always had a much larger vision for what Fertile Thoughts could offer, though. But even with site advertising and the upgrade program, our resources have remained limited over the years. By selling the site to eHarmony, we will have more resources available to help us achieve our vision for the site.
Why did you choose to sell to eHarmony?
We’ve been entertaining different possibilities to help Fertile Thoughts continue to grow, but we weren’t seeking to sell. When eHarmony approached us and explained how we’d fit into their growing network of sites, there was a natural fit. They’re on board with our vision for Fertile Thoughts and we’re really comfortable with all the people we’ve met at eHarmony, which is important to us.
What’s the connection between Fertile Thoughts and an online dating site?
eHarmony is best known for its online matchmaking service for singles, but the company is much more than that. They’ve branched out to provide a diverse amount of information and community resources to help people with many different important life decisions, such as planning a wedding and starting a family. You may want to visit another of their parenting properties, Justmommies.
I’m already in a happy relationship. Am I somehow joining eHarmony’s singles matching service as a result of this acquisition?
Absolutely not. You’re in no way being added to eHarmony’s singles matching service.
In connection with the sale, the ownership of any personally identifiable information that you've submitted to Fertile Thoughts has been transferred to eHarmony. However, the Fertile Thoughts data is being kept separate from the membership data they have from their singles matching service.
Is eHarmony going to protect the information I’ve put into Fertile Thoughts?
Absolutely. As you may imagine, eHarmony takes user privacy very seriously and has built a trusted relationship with millions of registered members over the past eight years. We’ve updated our privacy policy as part of the sale, which you can read here. Our Terms and Conditions and Community Guidelines have also been updated.
You can choose to opt-out and have your personally identifiable information removed from the Fertile Thoughts database by sending an email to removeme@fertilethoughts.com and saying in the body of it that you want to be removed from the Fertile Thoughts database. Your Fertile Thoughts account will be disabled and we’ll remove your information from the database.
Will eHarmony.com start sending me emails marketing their singles matching service?
No.
Is eHarmony going to change the types of topics that can be discussed on Fertile Thoughts?
Absolutely not. Part of the reason we felt comfortable selling to eHarmony is because they understood that open, respectful discussion about all kinds of fertility, conception and parenting topics is important to the community.
Will there still be Board Coordinators?
Yes, and the process of becoming one will remain unchanged.
Will there be changes to Fertile Thoughts’ pricing structure?
Our pricing structure isn’t going to change. The basic Fertile Thoughts membership will continue to be free and the site will remain ad supported. The Gold and Platinum premium membership plans and associated privileges will also remain intact. If you have already paid for a membership, it will be fully honored to its full term.
Where can I learn more about eHarmony as a company?
Good starting places are eHarmony’s Company Overview and Corporate FAQs.
