LUPRON shots, please help!!!

Hi ladies...hope you guys can answer my questions....

I had my ultrasound and blood work this morning...and it turned out that I have increased estrogen level, so they told me not to try this month (last month I was on clomid, ovidrel and progesterone). They said that I should be doing lupron shots and another shot starts with an M don't remember what that was. I am supposed to go into doctor's office on monday to learn how to give myself those shots. I looked online and have read very horrible side effects that people have experienced from lupron....hair loss, weight gain, memory loss, nose bleeds, passing out, high blood pressure, joint pain to name a few.....I am really new at all this just found out that I have endo and had surgery in april....Please, have you guys tried lupron and have you experienced these horrible side effects????? I have also read that bad side effects really outweigh the good things this drug is supposed to do. Here is the pathetic thing before all these drugs my hormone levels were all absolutely normal. I am not sure what I am even getting these drugs for. Please ladies let me know if you know anything that would help me and what this drug is about?

thanks so much

hope - I've been on Lupron for my IVF cycle since 5/30 and have not had any side effects, other then maybe being warmer then usual (though that could be other meds too). I did 20 lines/day from 5/30 thru 6/6, and since then I am on 10 lines/day.
I use a small needle; my shots go in the thigh.

Lupron suppresses ovarian function - decreases production of FSH & LH. I've heard it can help get rid of cysts, endo, fibroids, and other estrogen based factors.

All meds have a laundry list of side effects, but only a small percentage of people seem to get them. I'm saying this based on the feedback I've seen from other women on it for their IVF cycles and some statistics I've read.

hope - sorry I don't have much info I can give you for those questions; your doc should be able to answer best.

What kind of surgery did you have? I've heard that your chances of conceiving improve for a few months after surgery.

I had a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy/D&C/etc. and they removed a polyp & endo. I have PCOS and my RE said my ovaries are covered in cysts but there's nothing he could do surgically for them. I'm on Metformin for the PCOS. In between my other cycles my RE usually puts me on BCP & Arimidex to keep activity down.

Good luck w/ your appt on Monday. I'm sure you'll get more answers then.

Hi Tiffany,

My surgery was supposed to be a quick polyp removal outpatient procedure, however 5 hours later I woke up to find that I had severe endo on my uterus, ovaries, tubes, bowels, gallbladder, bladder....AND it completely destroyed my apendix, so aside from lasering endo they performed an appendectomy as well. I ended up staying in the hospital for a few days and then out of work for 2 weeks....I am talking to the doctor on monday and seeing what else can we do I mean I haven't even discussed IUI's or IVF's with him as of yet. Since I only have on cyst at the moment he could possibly remove it through an office hysteroscopy and then do an IUI or something I mean there has to be another way, there are people that can't tolerate lupron and then doctors take them off of it....by the way we are neighbors I live in Philadelphia

Hi neighbor

Wow - sounds like you were through the ringer with your surgery. Sorry to hear about the endo. From what I've read, it does come back but I think you're typically safe for 6 mos before it'd start to. I don't know how they figure out what it's doing in there since they usually don't even know about it w/o surgery.

Keep me posted; I'm interested in what your Dr says at your appt.

Thanks, will definitely let you know what he says...I am trying to make a list of questions that I want to ask him tomorrow, because knowing myself by the time I get to his office ( I am taking a few hours off in the middle of work day) I will get stressed and forget everything.

Ok so dr. said that I am going to be getting a micro dose of lupron and only for 2 weeks therefore shouldn't have that many side effects, he said he will do this for about 2 cycles and if nothing happens we are going to move directly into IVF, so that's the deal

I've done Lupron as well along with Bravelle (in your case you may be talking about Menapour). Noticably I was hotter and definitely gained weight. Since you are stimulating more eggs and growth you become quite bloated. But other than that, it really isn't bad. The needles are little and I did them in my belly. I used my bellybutton like a clock. Also, Youtube has a ton of video's showing other women doing there shots to help you.
