Anyone else with Occult Ovarian Failure?

Looking for someone else who has this as well. It's the precursor to POF, or a version of it, depending on who you talk to. I still get my period every month, but have diminished ovarian reserve and high FSH levels.

Thanks,
Monica

Hello I just was at RE today and I think that may be what he said I have. He said I can try another IVF but I will have to stim very aggressively. Are you still having treatment or what is your RE saying? Good Luck Tonya

I have tried a couple of cycles. The first cycle we had to cancel because I didn't stimulate any follicles. The second cycle we retrieved 9 eggs from 12 follicles. Unfortunately, none of them developed. We had PGD done and all of them had problems with them. So we didn't do a transfer. We have another consult coming up with our RE. I guess we'll see what he says. This is related to the diminished ovarian reserve. Apparently, I am dealing with poor egg quality and quantity. This was just last week. BTW - I am 37 yrs old. We used 600 IU of Gonal-F just so you know when you talk with your RE.

So is the poor quality because of the Occult Ovarian Failure? My first IVF was cancelled on day 9, We had 7 follicles. My RE is talking about doing the micro-flare protocol. I am 30 and we are being treated for anti-sperm antibodies so this was a real surprise.

The "occult" part relates to the fact that it's a hidden condition. Since I'm getting my period regularly, there would be no real indicator that I'd be having fertility problems. Poor ovarian reserve indicates that either you have few eggs left, or they may be of poor quality, or both. OOF is the precursor to Premature Ovarian Failure or in otherwords, early menopause. Being in the lucky group (sarcastic), I get to get my period while not being able to produce quality eggs.

I know what its like

Hi I am 25 and had been dx with a high fsh level also a sign of poor ovarian reserve. This month we are starting IUI with injectables. I guess according to my RE I have a 5% chance ( that number freaked me out) anyway i have to go through 3 IUI then onto IVF for insurance reasons. I also get my period every month on the day. I can't believ this is happening to me. I thought since Iam so young I would have no problem. How are you dealng with things. Do you have any up lifting success stories. Good Luck!

Hello Boydid, I responded to a question in the high FSH forum. When my first IVF was cancelled due to poor response and I got the results of my Clomid Challenge I was devastated and me RE gave me reason to beleive it was over for me. Since then I have switched REs and he beleives we have a chance. We will be starting IVF soon. Go to the High FSh forum and that thread you started there and check out the Forum someone told you about in there, I went there and it is wonderful. Good Luck. Keep us posted Tonya

There is hope (pg ment) - success story

I didn't mention that we were successful with our very first try with injectables almost 2 yrs ago and have a DD who is the joy of my life. I was given the doner egg talk OVER THE PHONE! My RE was not hopeful, but thought we should try stim to see if I responded at all. Turns out I did respond very well. The very next month we found out we were pg. This is our try for DC#2. I'm 37, and given my age now my RE is less hopeful than before. However, I did yoga for infertility, took fish oil and wheatgrass, eliminated dairy products, ate tons of nuts and proteins. I also did visualization after giving myself the shots at night. I would lie down on my bed with the lights darkened and have a talk with my ovaries. I tried to visualize the follicles growing in each ovary. Hey, it sounds hokey, but I did everything I could and it worked for me. There is hope. Do not give up on having your own DC. If you want to chat, just email me directly.

Thanks!

I really appreciate the quick resonse> Its been so comforting to me finding this site and knowing I am not the only one going through this. I mean I can tell myself there are so many people with these issues but until you talk you still feel all alone. I will try that talk with my ovaries hey whatever works right:> Anyway tomorrow I go for my HSG. I am alittle nervous I read that it hurts alot. I also heard that people have better luck conceiving. Any thoughts on that? Look forward to talking with youladies as I go on this journey. Hopefully we will all have succes stories to share one day. Ilana

Ilana, I had some pain with my HSG but the RE I had at the time could not find the opening in my cervix and had to clamp my cervix OUCH. Other than that a little cramping and that is it. Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Tonya
