TTC for the first time...

Hello everyone,
I am a plus sized woman 5'9" and 300lbs and I am trying to conceive right now. I am 30 years old and my biological alarm clock is going off! I am really afraid after reading all of the negative stuff about obesity and pregnancy and I just need some reassurance from others like me about the risks vs. the actuality of it all. My goal is a healthy pregnancy with a healthy child and mom at the end. Some stuff I have read makes me feel ashamed to try at this weight... like I would kill myself or my child if I attempted it... Also will casaerean section be most likely for me or is it common to have natural birth at my size. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hey there Jett!

I too am TTC at an unhealthy weight. I look at it this way, big girls have babies all the time. Sure, there are complications to worry about, but at 29 (I know 29/30 isn't old) the biological clock is going off, and I'm not willing to ignore it.

Wishing you the best of luck!!

Hi Jett!!!

I would like to fill you in , as I am currently PG with my first child *I have had 8 losses*

I am 5'7 and a large bone *testing done*. I weighed 250lbs when I conceived with this child.

I also was so nausious *never puked tho*, and had terrible food aversions so I COULD NOT eat hardly at all for a good 2 months, that I lost 20 lbs in my first trimester. Only as of the last weeks have I gained a few lbs, so I am back 3 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight.

BEing overweight has no bearing on your delivery status, so DO NOT let anyone tell you any different. You can deliver any way that you want, and that is safe for you and the baby.

If you are going to be having a c-section *for some reason or another* make sure it is a horizontal pelvic/bikini cut. DO NOT let them do a horizontal mid-abdominal cut- nothing but horror stories about them, and fatphoebic doctors tend to do them!!!!

Please keep in touch let us know how you are doing!!!!!!!
And if you have any questions, feel free to PM me

Rachael

Jett: I can relate Im 25 5'4 298ish, I have heard it from doctors, they were hiested to help me. They told me I need to lose weight first. Which I totally understand I do cuz of risks. I have pcos never had regular cycles. My ob/gyn referred to an RE, The RE put me on aygestin, and metfornim. And told me different things on how to lose weight. Well at my last appointment we talked and I knew my risks at getting pregant at my weigh. I still wanted to persue ttc. He gave me letrozole to make me ovulate. He told me if this is what i wanted then he would help me. Now Im waiting to finish aygestin, then take letrozole.
Jett dont be ashamed there are all types of women out there who are bigger having babies. Dont let your weigh keep you from a family. Yes it is a good idea to try and lose weight but you dont have to be a size 0 to get pregant. There are alot of women on the site who is every helpful. and can make you think positive. Im not letting my weigh stop me, in the begining i thought i had to be skinny. Ive learned that this is how i am. My RE told me that a c-section is a risk at my size. but thats just one of many. All we want are healthy babies and to be a mom, that is my goal. and with the help of doctors its possible. Anything is possible. Dont give up and read the positive.

Good luck. Hope this helps
Jamie

Jamie.. u put that perfect....!!!!!!!!!!

****I wanted to just add that along with jamie, I also lost weight, not by really trying too hard, but by some healthier eating, lowering carbs, sticking to whole wheat if i was eating carbs, and my metformin. I lost 20 lbs and became pregnant almost instantly and kept the baby after all the losses****

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
