    New Here

    Hi ladies,
I am MichelleVA mom to Mikayla 7, Mya soon to be 6, Zoe who will be 3 in a week. I am overweight and was working with WW on losing weight when we found out surprise I am pregnant with number 4. We have given up the losing weight on my own and after this birth I will start the process for gastric bypass surgery.
I am scared about this delivery I never was this big before with my other 3 girls births. I was 254, 270ish, and 280ish. I am 280 and scared I will gain weight. I am going to ask the Dr. if I can keep up with the nursing mom program on WW and see what he says at my appt. on Wed. I really don't want to gain weight at all but realize that the chances of that happening with me are almost 0!
I am trying to eat healthier my typical menu
breakfast 2 packets of oatmeal and water in the am
    snack apple pear or popcorn
    lunch weight watcher meal
snack fruit or crackers and peanut butter
dinner whatever the family is eating

I tend to eat a sugar free ice pop at night or sugar free popsicle.
My old dr. group (we moved) was always talking to me about GD but I never got it and I don't want to get it this time either! So I am going to try to watch my eating. They told me to follow the South Beach diet in my last pregnancy and I failed at that!

My births were all great but the last one at my largest weight I just found it difficult with the excess weight. If I could lose some before that would be great.

I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a bit about myself. I can't wait to get to know you all more here on our journey to motherhood!

Welcome Michelle!!! Congrats on your pregnancy, how far along are you? I think your menu sounds pretty good. You're eating way better than I am as of now. I have bad MS so I pretty much eat what I can and its mostly stuff high in carbs. I am currently 9wk5days pregnant with twins. I did have GD with my first pregnancy but not my second (I have an 8yr old and a 3yr old) so I will be going to the doc next week for the 1hr glucose test. I'm not feeling to good about it because I am a little heavier with this pregnancy than I was with my other two so we will see. GL and keep up the good eating habits

Hi Michelle. I'm 270 lbs @ 5'7", 6w4d and this is the biggest I've started a pregnancy at, too. My oldest I started at 235 lbs and my youngest I started at 265 lbs. Neither OB I had ever said anything about increased risk of GD to me, but my endocrinologist was always shocked that I never developed it with either of the boys and I have insulin resistance, lol! With my first they wanted me to gain 20 lbs, with my youngest 15 lbs and with this one my OB actually doesn't want me to gain anything.

I understand your concerns as I have them as well, I really don't want to get any closer to 300 lbs than I already am and I do plan on really going for some major weight loss after the baby is born (dh has already been forwarned, but then he's lost 30 lbs himself lately the punk!). I think your menu plan is good, healthy without being too strict. Not that I'm an expert or anything, lol!

Definately talk to your OB/GP or whoever you plan on seeing for the pregnancy, discuss your concerns w/your dr and ask them what they recommend. I just read an article in Fit Pregnancy about a study for pg overweight women w/GD that had some of them go on a weight maintenance diet w/exercise and those women either maintained their weight or even lost some weight and they all had healthy pregnancies and babies. It's in the current issuse (Dec/Jan 2008) so you might go grab it, read it, and take it with you to your next appt, I know I am!

Good luck and keep us updated on what your dr says! I'm all ears for ideas and suggestions myself.
    3 wonderful kids

Thanks for the welcome ladies! I am going to pick up that magazine tonight on my way home from work and bring it to my appt. on Wed. I have been craving fruit lately so that is good I am going to try to just eat fruit as much as possible.

    Talk to you all soon!
