Low papp-a levels
Can anyone shed some light on having low PAPP-A levels. I am 14 weeks pregnant and my bloodtests and ultrasound all came back fantastic except for my PAPP-A levels which were .44. I am pregnant with fraternal twins and I am 35 years old. My genetic counselor suggested I have an amnio to rule out Down's and any other chromosonal abnormalties. If that comes back perfect than I have read about many other problems that can occur later in pregnancy. Has anyone had such low PAPP-A levels and had healthy babies? Has anyone had complications due to low PAPP-A levels?
Please inform, I am worried sick over this. Thank you

I'm not really sure what to tell you. I had frat twins and although my blood tests came back normal the nuchal measurement was increased in one of them (3.1)
My doctor recommended an amnio but I just didn't feel it was worth the risk of m/c as I would not terminate anyway. Turns out both babies were fine. I was still a little worried at birth but had testing done and all chromosomes are normal. One thing to take into consideration is that the blood work is not really all that accurate with twin pregnancies. Good luck!

Have you had any other testing done? My peri does whats called a Sequential Screen. It tests for Downs, T-18, and spinal defects. The first part is an u/s and labs at 12w and then repeat labs at 16w.
I had low PAPP-A with my son's pregnancy. But there were other issues that came up afterward we found the low PAPP-A. I have no idea if it had anything to do with it. Good Luck to you and

Thank you very much ladies! I am seeing a specialist now. He will do the sequential screening at 16 weeks. He also saw in my "extensive" medical history that I may have a clotting issue. He has ordered some more bloodwork to be done and will come up with a solution when all the test results come in. Thanks again.
